ok, well i went to the dentist today and they x-rayed my teeth. my top molars are in definate need of help. the dentist said its up to me what i wanna do. after him giving me suggestions and his opinion, i came to the conclusion of geting my two top molars on each side taken out, which is something he agrees with. i have vicodin and kelflex for the pain now, and he offers laughing gas when i get them pulled in like 14 days.... if i don't do it, and got a root canal, and then get it crowned, within years, they can break and crack and fall apart again. and theres no point if i still have my wisdon teeth coming..it seemed ok earlier today, but now that i thought about it, im terrified!
i don't know what to expect, how bad it will hurt, what im gonna eat, what its gonna feel like and everything. im so scared now and i don't wanna do it! please anyone who knows anything about it, please tell me and let me know everyone so i feel better about this! thanks!

Go ahead and have the teeth extracted. It will be healthier for you, and you only have to go through this once. Everyone reacts differently to extractions, but talk with your dentist and let him or her know that you are nervous about this, the dentist and staff will take great care of you and believe me, as I've been a dental assistant, that they hear this all the time. It's very easy to make you feel much more comfortable if they understand what is bothering you, they can make the experience as pleasant as possible. Good luck to you!

I had the same thing done when I was about 19. It will be a bit sore the next few days, but if the dentist will give you some slow release pain killer it should only be uncomfortable. I got sunburned once and it was more painful than the tooth extraction. Trust whatever pain med he suggests and use it exactly as on the bottle. There will most likely be some "raw meat" taste in your mouth because there will be a little bleeding but should not be bad. Dentist may have you sit in chair or waiting room a few minutes to be sure the bleeding stops, but that is normal. Ask him about what kind of mouthwash to use to get rid of the "nasty taste". Something minty will help a great deal. I used Listermint because I know it kills germs that I didn't want getting in my wound. Stock up on soup that you can slurp without biting on the tender area and you will get through this just fine. Cool Jello feels good in the mouth too!

Now for the good news. You mention you still have wisdom teeth coming. So, getting these molars out of the way now might spare you some real trouble when the wisdoms come. There are many people now who have a mouth too small for all of the teeth and when the wisdoms come in they literally shove the molar out of the way. If you are lucky it comes straight out, if not it will get crooked and then both molar and wisdom must be pulled. That would hurt a lot worse than getting the molars pulled now. Trust me.

Did the dentist give you both vicodin and kelfex?
Be certain it is safe to take both.

Hope that puts you in a better mood.
Best of luck

Molars Extracted

If you're wisdom teeth haven't come in yet, go ahead and have them pulled. It may give the wisdom teeth more room so that you won't have to get them extracted. It will definitely make cleaning your back teeth easier!
I've had two molars pulled, and I only had to use the pain meds for half of the first day after - and I'm a big sissy! Definitely get both of them done at the same time; the pain won't be worse, and you'll have it all done in one visit.

TIP: Starting 24 hours after the extraction, rinse out your mouth with warm, salty water every 2 or 3 hours. A lot of people skip this, but it really does help reduce soreness and speed the healing. Good luck!

Get the root canal and then get a gold crown. If he is a good dentist he should give you a local and you wont feel a thing.

The most important thing to do is NOT WAIT! I waited 12 years and did'nt go to the dentist till my wisdom teeth started to give me problems.

I had 2 wisdom teeth removed and a root canal all in one day

The pain was'nt as bad as I thought. The vicodin did'nt help me with the pain but it did make me not care about it, or anything else.

The only problem I did have was I became sick to my stomach once because I was swallowing blood.

Good Luck!

Everything is going to be OK.

during the procedure if you have some anesthetic it wont hurt. the injection for the anesthetic may hurt for 2 seconds then u go numb.
At night when you go to bed its gonna hurt and u will be sore for a few days but its not too bad.
When I had mine done it just hurt a bit and I had stiches so it was a bit sore the 1st night.
Then I was allergic to the painkillers I got so I was a bit sick for a bit.
Best thing to do it get some clove oil or some crushes cloves, its an antiseptic as well as it numbs the pain, just rub some on the gumbs to sooth any lil pains or bonjela or something you dentist can recommend for after. It is an operation so you arer gonna feel a lil sore after.
Ummm best thing to eat is fish, full of nutrients and soft so dont need much chewing.
Ice cream is the ultimate comfort and it cool, if u feel really really sore soup is soothing.
Hay you gotta do it ;)
good Luck

It depends on how hard the dentist has to work to pull the teeth. If you are young, the teeth tend to come out easier. I just had a tooth pulled and, because of my age, it took a longer amount of time and part of my jaw came out with it. However, I don't have the shooting pain whenever I eat anything. The dentist also gave me percocet and that eased the pain I had. Plan to eat soft foods like yogurt, cheese, liquids. I found that eating frozen blueberries helped with the swelling and actually eased the pain. If the dentist puts stitches in, plan on visiting him in a week after the oral surgery to get them removed.

Good answers already. Also, cold liquids 1st 24 hrs, warm after that. Liquids only 1st 2-3 days, soft foods next 3-5 days. Brush starting 1st day. Clean mouth=quicker healing. Hope this helps.

Surley he won't pull both of them at the same time. I hope not, especially if they are on oposite side. have the gas!!!!!!!!! you'll have to eat soft foods until they heal and by all means, do not drink any carbonated drinks or you might get a dry socket and it hurts like the devil.
