I used to live in Riyadh for 5 years, enjoyed it a lot after I am hoping to return, this time to the Eastern Province. Anyway shopping malls are great but maybe not so good for meeting people. Have you been to the Diplomatic Quarter? Maybe contact your embassy and ask what sort of functions they arrange (if any). If you meet people who live in compounds, it's worth visiting them. There is also a Turkish restaurant on the Thalatheen street, not far from where you live, and Jarir bookstore at Olaya street. I used to buy lots of books and read.. I also went horse-riding in Diplomatic quarter. Hash house harriers arrange walks and runs in the desert, someone may know their contact details. If you have access to internet, you can also search for more information there. Don't flirt with women, you can still be polite, but in general mind your own business. Saudi people are some of the most polite and generous people in the world, they always treated me with respect and invited me to their homes, they are very welcoming. It is probably a nice idea to get to know Saudi men too, they often go to coffee shops and have picnics in the desert. Hope this helps, good luck in Riyadh.
PS: Learn to speak Arabic, that will keep you occupied too :)

Riyadh's a great place. I lived there for like 7 years. There's plently to do. There are lots of malls like Faisaliyah, Al-Akariyah, Jazira, etc. in yr compound, I'm sure you'll have cinemas. There are fast-food joints everywhere. McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hutt. You can play your video games and find them cheaply available at malls. You can get movies as well.

well i can say that you are in a cool place i like it in faisalia
my advice to you is stay away of the party girls but there are alot of people and they are really nice
you can tell from the way they look and dress not every one you can talk to or can deal with it the same like any other place in this world
but hey you are kinda in a new place i guess
but again it will take time to tolerate but in the end you will like it :)
