Why do so many people stereotype each religion? For example, if a guy says he is catholic everybody automatically thinks of the priests and little boys. I am Mormon, and there a millions of stereotypes out there for us lol, and I try to shrug them off and not hate people for their words, "love thy enemy", but it still stings..... and these stereotypes are passed down, through friends, families, and churches even. That does not seem a holy way to live your life.

Those of us who follow the teachings of Christ often times do not act in Christ-like ways. This includes how we choose to talk about religions different than our own.

As a teacher, I have had many Mormon students. I have yet to meet a Mormon student or parent who was not kind and family-centered. I'm sure not all Mormons are nice people, but in my experiences they have been.

Hopefully all of us will ask ourselves, "Do I ever use stereotypes when talking about other religions." And, if so, wouldn't Jesus disapprove of this?

All the folks that I have met that practice as an LDS have seemed to be very nice and friendly.

The problem is for me that most people that get into a routine, any religion, seem to not want to keep an open mind and look around them, making excuses for discrepancies and defending when things are disproven.

The problem is even worse in anonymous forums such as this ... people are much more comfortable judging, attacking, and being nasty to each other from a safe distance.

America was built upon stereotyping and categorizing, however incorrectly it was and still is. Do you expect it to stop now, just because we're in a new millenium?

Stereotypes are pervasive throughout society, not just your religion.

Everyone's rude. It gets worse over the computer, though, since not only is everyone rude, they're anonymous.
