I think it can do both. Some people can have their lives complete with religion but at the same time when they start to try and convert or tell someone that they're wrong because they believe differently, then problems start. I think all the things you mentioned are possibilities. It just depends on the person and how open minded they are to other possibilities. Too bad there aren't more who are.............

In the past, probably more problems than solutions. But today, people are starting to get the idea of religion. Love, Truth and Forgiveness. Most of the major charities are run by religious groups. It causes some tension, but the benefits always outweigh the negative effects.
ETERNAL SALVATION for those that believe.
God Bless

IMOP...Religions were never created for solutions, but rather dictations of how lives must be lived contrived from interpretations of events of previous times...Unfortunately, being redirected into power tools toward the need for controlling masses for the rulers thereafter. Fear is a very effective method of control...add in the consequence of not following the crowd to be torturous death...you can see how things escalated into crusades & wars...
The members of these sects must find something beneficial in remaining part of such...formost, being relieved of responsibility for their actions by being able to blame a vengeful God, a book, or their spiritual ineptitude for what they themselves need to take more personally, with only the need to confess, or repent, to go on their merry ways.
The conflicts are continued & fuelled because we are a race of being that sees diversity as separateness instead of a grand connection of productive creativity. It also supplies an unending way for governing wonders to place the human management department into the hands of religious leaders to maintain control.
Welcome to Earth, my friend...your one great choice is to not allow such things to hinder your own spirit path, and not dwell on that which you will not change alone.

I think the overwhelming evidence today is that religion causes practically nothing but problems.
Religion is responsible for the majority of wars, conflict and murder of innocent life since humanity began. There is considerable evidence to classify religion as evil, and talk of religion (Gods etc) should be banned. Because the records prove over and over again throughout humanity that religion is clearly responsible for crimes against humanity, taking part in any religious activity should also be outlawed and made a criminal offence.
The world would be a much happier and peaceful place if religion ceased to exist. Although there are some decent religious believers and preachers, they are unwittingly spreading evil around our world, and that they should simply keep their beliefs and thoughts to themselves in the best interests of humanity, or suffer the consequences for their actions.
People should consider that the world would be like Heaven if religion ceased to exist, but all the believers and preachers have turned the planet into Hell.

I would hope that religion causes more solutions than problems. I personally don't care whether someone else believes something different than I do, but unfortunately its not everyone thinks thats okay. A religion is what ever you make it to be. It can cause trouble or greatness.

Plenty of bad things happened because of fights over religion, but people fight over everything. If it isn't religion, it's land or race superiority or some stupid crap like that. Consider the good people do because of religion. Little things on a day to day basis, and the hope it brings them, when they would normally give up. We'd all be selfish, with no feelings or care for others if we thought all life was about was self-gratification, and that there were no consequences for our actions.

Very deep! While massive belief in fairytales is very distressing to intelligegent people, religion does provide an easy way to control the weak-minded.
It does give people peace - until someone disagrees with them!!

Problems. It can provide mental relief from fears on an individual level, but it causes a great deal of trouble on Earth.

Religion by itself doesn't do anything. The people who believe it are the ones who choose how they will react to it. It doesn't cause any of the things you've mentioned.
However, knowing God does bring peace and patience and tolerance and joy. It also leads to salvation if you're interested in that.
