She's turning 31 this year (Aug 29th) and her second child is due the first week of September - so i would LOVE to get her something sweet and pampering for her and the baby. We don't know the sex of the baby - and we won't know until birth - so most of the gift baskets I have seen for mom-to-be birthdays seem sex based. Anyone have any great ideas?? Thanks!

Update:
My goodness - these are all GREAT ideas!! Thank you guys so much! I am looking into the place that does the bellycast as well as putting together a pampering basket for her at Bath & Bodyworks (because none of the spas by me do pregnant massages - boo!). I'll probably bake her up a home made cake as well - maybe even try to maek her a birthday dinner. With her hubby working overtime and her barely able to stand for very long - i am pretty sure it's been a while since she's had some good homecooking! Thank you so much, guy!! You all ROCK!!!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you know your sister pretty well? Please get her something for just her. My twins were supposed to be born Feb but No they came 2 weeks before my birthday in Jan...lol. And every year has been about them on my birthday. It's like: Hello, I still have birthdays too. Everyone just forgot about me and would only think of the kids. Of course I was just a kid too so it made a huge emotional difference. Now I would say get her a gift that reflects your love and knowledge of her as your sister, and maybe if you want, an extra gift to show support of the baby on the way. And let her know you thought of both. I'm sure she'll have a lot of well wishers thinking of just the baby. But what do you know about her? Would she want a gift aimed at baby or would she want it to be solely for her pleasure? Nothing wrong with either!

I also suggest saving the baby presents for the baby shower. It's so easy for a woman to get lost in the whole baby-making business. I'm sure she'd really appreciate something special just for her.

With her birthday so close to her due date, she may not feel like eating out. What about cooking her and her husband a special dinner at your place? (Maybe the grandparents would like to babysit the older child for the evening? Hopefully, you don't live too far away.) Or you could get her and her husband a gift certificate for a dinner out instead (if you'd think she'd rather go out).

How about some pretty pajamas? She will be smaller after the birth, though probably not back to her regular size. A nice pajama set would be a thoughtful gift.

Something I also like to give to moms is a shoulder hot/cold pack.

That was my best friend's favorite part of the pampering package I sent her.

Check with a local spa - some of them offer a "pregnancy massage", which involves using a special table, allowing a woman that is pregnant to lay on her stomach (that alone was a welcoming thing for me!). My husband got me one for a Valentine's Day gift, and I loved the relaxing time away, laying on my stomach and getting a wonderful 40 minute massage. My legs and back loved it!

I would get her something to pamper her - she is already getting tons of stuff for her coming baby with baby showers, and gifts from everyone (if your family is like mine!!) because it "was cute". Don't get me wrong - your sentiment is wonderful, and you will must be a wonderful aunt, but her birthday is for her. She might be getting sick of everything for the baby (I know I did after a while. That is all anyone could talk about - I was done with it after the first five minutes of the conversation. Everyone else wasn't done until. . . Well, they still aren't done!). She will welcome something special that is for her, and just her. That massage time will be perfect, and I bet she really appreciates it!

At our local spa, it was $65 for the time. I say money well spent!

Good luck!

I really like the idea of giving her some pampering. I understand that being pregnant is a good time for her and everything, but she may want something that is oriented to herself. I know I would, but wouldn't say anything because I wouldn't want to appear "selfish".

How about a treatment at a day spa or something like that? Manicure, pedicure, facial, heck... even a mud bath or something. Or a gift certificate to her favorite hair stylist or an eyebrow bar... just anything to make her feel special and feminine!

I was pregnant this year during my birthday and I wanted to make sure that my birthday was about me. And I was not being selfish, but I am still an individual. The baby has plenty of its own moments, specifically baby showers. Almost everything you read today encourages moms to take care of themselves; to avoid ignoring their needs and focusing only on others. So, I think you should get her something that you would if she wasn't pregnant.

Get her either a locket, or a "mom" necklace.

Otherwise, get her a gift certificate for a manicure, or a pedicure. Many places also give pregnancy massages.

If you want to do a basket - go to bath & body and create your own pampering system, with her favorite scents.

Look at your local day-spa for pregnancy massages. It's a nice thing for a woman who's carrying another human insider her. In particular, if she already has one at home to take care of, she probably doesn't get much time for herself.

FYI, I highly recommend that you don't get something for the baby to celebrate your sister's BDay. Give the baby something for it's BDay, but let your sister have a day to celebrate for herself.

Ive seen this done on the baby story. Its a molding of the pregnant belly....try that and a pedicure. It is so hard to fancy up your feet when you cant bend over. Save the baby presents for the baby shower.
