I know it will protect your skin from burning. If you say outside for an hour with sun screen on and an hour without will you be just as dark after?

Sun screen does slow down the process of tanning, but it doesn't completely stop it. But that doesn't matter, you should STILL use sun screen. If you stay out in the sun enough, nobody will know the difference, and you won't get cancer either.

No. Think about it. You're "screening" your skin from the sun. If you sat in the shade would you get the same tan, or burn as the case may be, as you would if you sat in the blazing sun?

Sunscreen prevents the harmful rays from reaching your skin. Your skin darkens to protect you from these harmful rays, so by putting on sunscreen with a high SPF value (e.g. 30+), you will not tan much.

You won't get as tan if you wear sunscreen, but you'll also have a smaller risk of skin cancer later on, which I'd say is worth it.

No it does not stop tanning. Just the harmful UV rays.
