For instance in "Grounded for LIfe"...why do they make Sister Helen seem soo mean. Nuns arent really soo strict and mean and harsh. They simply give up everything to follow God for the rest of their lives. They are very innocent and gentle. I know nuns so whoever answers dont give me any bullcrap answers. Why are nuns and monks put in such a bad light? I dont understand.

We are a society that is greedy, self indulgent, promiscuous and powerful.

Nuns and monks take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. They are the ultimate counter culture group. There is no group in society that comes close.

They scare us like death scares us. They are a reminder that all might not be right with the world.

Well an easy answer for a change.

Society does "not" put a bad light on Nuns and Monks. You got your information from TV. TV programs project the attitude that Hollywood and Madison Avenue want us to cultivate. This is the way they want us to think.

Your question involves a sweeping generalization. I don't believe "society," as a whole does put then in a bad light.

There are talls ones, short ones, interesting ones, boring ones and good ones and bad ones.....just like all human beings. No general statement that could be made about nuns and monks is that they are all Catholics.

I also knew some very nice nuns. In fact, one of my mentors was a nun. I also knew some pretty mean ones who may have loved God, but were a little less affectionate with us kids.
My point? They shouldn't be put in a bad light, but angels they ain't.

Truthfully, I don't know. Why would you put someone in a bad light when they give up everything to serve God? I can't even imagine that kind of commitment that they have.

Because people resent the ethic of asceticism that underlies monasticism (and most of Christianity), and resent the tacit implication that celibates are ipso facto holier than the rest of us.

it rather is by using fact human beings tend to concern or hate what they don't understand. regardless of if it rather is by using transformations in faith, epidermis shade, or regardless of, the mindset of many human beings is that their "type" is extra suited than unquestionably everyone else's. Statistically conversing however, in lots of considerable cities, crimes tend to be committed with the aid of darkish-skinned human beings extra many times than easy-skinned.

I sometimes think people are just jealous of our strong religious bonds. I ignore them.
