My son has made it clear a few times he was to have big muslces like his dad. To be modest I just started working out again in May, so they are not that big, but you know...eye of the beholder. I have thought of getting him some resistance bands and light weight dumbells and start him on a program. What are the pros and cons of this? He is really skinny as well. He is not a big eater. Would this help him put on more weight? My ex-wife and I have tried the pedi-sure drinks but we did not see any improvement. Thanks in advance

BTW, he does play sports...t-ball, soccer, and he does swim (not competively, just recreationally...bout once a week). He does have some muscle tone. Just really low body fat.

I'm not too afraid of the stunting thing. My grandpa told me that since I started drinking coffee around 7 or 8 my growth would be stunted. I am 6'2"....how tall would I have been

Just so people know, there are different types of pedi-sure. There is the stuff you give kids when they have diahrrea. There are also those premix nutrional supplement shakes. That is what we were giving him.

This is too young. Let him play sports and get his exercise this way, like little kids do. Don't give him any kind of sports drinks for any reason, he's still a child. He is still growing!
He will have plenty of time later to do what the big kids do, let him be a child as long as you can. The sports are enough for him right now. We actually don't let any child into our gym until they're 12-14. We have a special area just for them where the equipment is smaller. He is way too young!

let him do some moderate things but keep him primarily with cardio until hes about 12. its reccomended that you dont start lifting weights until 16 but i started at 11 and my growth wasnt stunted.

he's freaking 7 years old. wtf are you doing trying to give him high-cal drinks?

a 7 year old should not be lifting weights period. their bones are still flexible and you could end up bending them. kids that haven't hit puberty shouldn't be doing any weight training whatsoever because of their overall flexibility. let him run around outside and play sports and figure out what his body is going to do when he hits his teens.

given how fat the average american kid is nowadays, you should be thankful your kid is skinny and doesn't seem to be ballooning like every other kid in ameria.

Let him do push-ups and pull-ups. Those are good substitutes for weights. And feed him lots of protein-rich foods. That helps with the muscle-building.

i think if it something he is interested in then you should let him give it a try and see how it works out ..if he is happy doing it and doesn't try to "over-do" it then teach him what he needs to know about it ...
like not doing it in ways that will hurt him ... he is a growing boy and looking for ways to find out what he likes in life and all that ..kinda have to let him try new things to get to what it is that he wants to do .... help him grow ...... it's not too young for him as long as you limit the time and effort he spends doing it ..like i said just don't let him over do it

7 years old is way to young to start lifting weights and it can actually stunt your growth.
