It shouldn't matter if your doctor was out of the office, there should be nurses there who can take care of prescriptions/paperwork and deal with patient problems - or at least a doctor's exchange to get you in touch with a physician who can help you.

the doctor's office should be able to provide you a letter stating you were there,even if the doctor was not...closest I could find...
