When they start showing interest in the toilet and when they can keep their diaper dry for at least 2 hours at a time. It is also helpful if they already notify you when they've just peed or pooped in their diaper. Pull-ups are a wonderful invention!

Honestly it depends on the child. My first 2 were fully potty trained by 3 1/2, my third by 3 and my now 2 1/2 is almost there. I know people say children can be trained at 1 or 1 1/2 but that still does not seem like a possibilty for most, I think even 2 is pushing it.

I think around age one and a half for girls and age two for boys. If they aren't interested in it, you can make it more interesting by telling them that they are big and not a baby and no longer need to make messes for mommy to clean up. If it's a first child and you have a dog or cat.. you could say, " look at the doggy or kitty. Only they make messes for me to clean up! Ishy. Can you try to go on the potty like a big girl or boy?" If you have a new baby you can say the same about him or her. For a boy you can put tissues by the toilet and have him pee on them and sink them. It helps with his aim too! For a girl don't forget to teach her to wipe from front to back. Have a chart with some stickers so when they have used the potty, they get to put a sticker on the chart. Three is usually the magic age. I have never seen a child past three pee his pants. So if it gets slow... don't worry. Don't punish either because that will just make him or her scared to use the potty. Good luck!!!!

Don't push the child, don't think about a time they "should" be potty trained - it's a natural progression, let the child decide, you'll know when they need to be trained without worrying about it.
Same goes for night time nappies/diapers... when they are good and ready, don't push them, you could make it worse & give them a complex.
Kids all potty train & stop night wetting at very different ages - don't worry, don't even think about it & just let it happen, easy.

I had hoped my daughter would be trained by 2 but it didn't happen that way. She was finally trained 4 months after she turned 2. I think it's nasty to let your child be in diapers past 3.

When he/she starts showing interest. Let him/her see the parent of the same sex using the bathroom. If they show some sort of interest in what you're doing, then it's time to buy a potty! Good LUck
