If you exercise and build muscle... always remember that muscle weighs more than fat so don't get discouraged if you don't loose weight right away. Weight loss shouldn't be a concern.

Well, aside from starving yourself (which I don't recommend, cause you'll be hurting your body more than helping doing this), you can't reliably lose 5 pounds in 2 weeks.
Most nutritionists believe that 1 and a half to 2 pounds a week is feasible if you eat less calories, and excercise at least 3 times a week (although you may as well do it everyday, it'd help your body).
As far as weight is concerned, a pound is equal to 3500 calories. You have to use that much calories up in order to start losing weight (not counting weight from water).
Unfortunately (well, depending on how you look at it), the human body is pretty energy efficient (unlike a car, which only uses about 30% of the gas it burns up), so excercises don't burn too many calories, so you have to do it slow and steady and lose weight over time, rather than quickly (if that dieting stuff really worked, then everyone would be doing it).

Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.
Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Links page has gov. BMI calculater to find out just how much overweight you are. Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

you need a calorie deficet of 1250 calories per day. I'd try to reduce my diet by 600 calories and excercise 600 calories per day (good hour of cardio). You can do this if your really hard core about it.
