People who celebrate Christmas feel that Christmas is a time to think about people and let them know you remember them. They also like to send a little message to say, "I hope you have a nice Christmas". Just because its nice, that's all. People don't send cards to anyone they hate, so you can assume that even if something was difficult in the relationship or if there was some spat, the card-sender wants the other person to know he/she still cares in some way. Again, nice thing to do and a Christmas-y thing to do.

Sometimes I wonder why people send xmas cards a all, when the people who get it will just through them away anyway. I think it's a waste of paper and a generally american (and european) habit that should slowly disappear.

When I think about sending someone a piece of paper (especially when it's numerous identical cards to many people) i just decide to: (1) send an email, (2) remember that we are all alive and call them on the phone.

BUT, finally answering your question: I think it's a matter of etiquette for that person, or they might feel better having sent a certain number of cards, like that number will make them feel like they did something right, or that they are more/less popular than in the previous year...

Perhaps the friendship hasn't ended, just needs a note to rekindle the relationship. This a easy way without risk to start a spark in the friendship.

"Tis the season to be jolly......." Some people just enjoy sending out cheerful cards to everyone. They may be long past over you, but not hold any grudges — just wishing you the best.

If you are afraid that it's an ex-girlfriend trying to rekindle old flames, send her a card from you & your current girlfriend/wife wishing her happy holidays from the two of you. She'll get the picture. Then see if the cards stop.

Its easier to just send christmas cards once a year ,than to stay in touch through out the year. It also makes people feel good to send them.

Its the polite and courtesy thing to do; also lets them know that even though the friendship or relatioship has ended you still think of them from time to time, even if the memories are not fond ones;brings back a memory of lost love or friendship that you wish you had back or just a reminder of why that friendship or relationship ended.

Do they know the friendship is over? Why does it need to be oven when you don't see each other as often? Can't you still just stay in touch?

I'd be grateful for people like this who remember you on important days. Maybe you should try a little harder to be nice to them and they'll take you back as a good friend.

I suppose that any of the preceeding answers could be correct. I however prefer to give the person the benefit of the doubt and presume that it is an indication that they still hold some degree of affection for me or my family. A recognition that they remember me in a positive and warm way.

I enjoy people and enjoy receiving communications from friends, classmates, and aquaintances throughout the year.

People around the world basically have forgotten how to live a life. most of the people are working like robots and dont know what is living and the actions are automatic not intended at all. Most of the people boss around in the house and will turn meek when confronted by the people in the outside world ? What else you expect except automatic behaviour?

Because it is polite to let someone know you are thinking of them. I may send the same card to everyone, but I write a personal note on the inside.
