I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years and we are wanting to get married next summer. We have a six month old son together, and I am afraid that my family will think that I am only wanting to get married because of him, like a cousin of mine did last year.
Does any one have any good ideas for an announcement.

I would keep it very simple. If you have the date picked out, either send an email or a card saying something like:
We're finally getting married!
...and what we want the most is you there.
Place
Time
Some cheap ways to do it are taking a family photo and superimposing the text over it (wal-mart has the machines to do it) and then you can print them for about 30c each. Or email them!
Family will gossip about motive because that is what they do, but ignore them and don't talk about it. Just say how happy you are and how much you can't wait. If you are happy, your enthusiasm will rub off!

Be honest. My fiance and I have a 10 month old son, been dating 3 years, and getting married in October. We explained to our family that we were thinking of marriage even before our son.
Don't overreact. This may be a little much for your family as well. Be aware that they may not be happy immediately, and it may not hurt to have him ask your parents for permission to marry you.
But don't expect happiness right away. Be mature about this. You want to marry him because...why. Because you love him? You can do better. Because you want a father for your son? You can do better.
Be honest with yourself and your family.

I would keep it short and simple. you could say something along the lines like look who's getting married after 4 years of being together.make it kinda funny in away. just to lighten it up a little bit.

BABY'S NAME is proud to announce the marriage of YOUR NAME to HIS NAME.
My Mommy is a YEAR graduate from YOUR HIGH SCHOOL and my Daddy is a YR graduate from HIS HIGH SCHOOL. They currently live with me and change me and love me and bathe me and feed me. My Mommy works NAME OF WORK (or if you stay at home) she stays home all day and plays with me. My Daddy brings home the formula from HIS WORK (or if he stays home) he plays will me all day.
A June 2007 wedding is planed, and don't for get to bring me gifts too!
