You'll lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. The only thing is that the layer of fat is on top of the muscle so if you're not doing cardio and only lifting weights you won't see the muscle as they'll be under the fat. Cardio will take care of the fat and you'll get fabulous results doing both.
However, please please, in order to see build muscles you will need to do your weight lifting on alternative days, otherwise you won't build any muscle.
Your muscles need a break from the weights and it is during the rest that they grow. When you lift weights you're actually tearing muscle down and when you rest for 24 hours that's when they're growing.
You can lift weights every day but you have to make sure they're not the same set of muscles otherwise you're blowing all your efforts away.

You can do the workout any way that you wish. If you would like to lose some weight, you can do cardio, and this will make you feel alot better too, it will give you more energy, and help you to feel better about yourself. The cardio will burn fat.
The weight training is also great, to give you some nice muscle tone, and burn calories. Doing both is a great way to lose weight and to firm up at the same time. Why not burn fat and calories? Be sure with the weights to do a full body workout. Be sure to not work the same muscle groups more than one time every 48 hrs. In other words if you work the front of your body today, work the back tomorrow and give these muscles a time for recovery, this is the time that they will grow. Go for it!

Actually a good way to lose fat is to gain muscle. Muscles use more calories than fat does so by having more of it the more calories you burn and then the more fat you can lose. Now this doesn't mean that you should bulk up and just because meat head. Instead do weight lifting (2 or 3 reps of not too heavy weights) followed by at least 40 minutes of cardio to get more in shape.
