I currently have a Toshiba A75-S220 Laptop with:
1. Window XP Home Edition
2. 60GB Hard Drive
3. 512 mb memory
4. Pentium 4
5. 3.06 GHz

I heard that a beta version of Windows Vista is currently available. When the new edition of Vista is released (whenever that is) do you think that it will be worth upgrading?

Vista isn't anywhere close to "ready," especially not as a beta. Steer clear unless you like pain.

Vista Beta 1 is more of an "alpha" version than beta. Aside from many features that simply don't work as yet (or will work with most of your existing programs), Vista will require a really powerful PC to operate well. (The system requirements are still be worked out, but that's the "word on the street.") The beta versions are essentially for programmers only to test their programs that will work in the completed version of Vista.

Windows XP should work just fine for anything you want to do for the foreseeable future, especially on your laptop. I'd let others "test" Vista and discover its problems for you before you buy (or try) the beta or anything else.

One note. Vista will need more RAM than what you have, and you'll need really good 3D-accelerated video support in your computer.

NO, don't upgrade to Vista anytime soon, whether it's the Beta version or even when the final public version is released. If XP is working fine for you, stick with it until at least a year after Vista's release, as there are BOUND to be bugs in it that later "service pack" updates will be issued by Microsoft. No sense deliberately looking for glitches when they're not necessary.

No. For the first two years it will be extremely buggy and full of security holes. It will also require a larger amount of Memory to operate efficiently on with all of the bells and whistles.

I think it is not a good idea because from this beta version you cannot upgrade to final version.
