In the scheme of things I don't think that it matters that it was trying to appease the unrest or not, it was still a terrorist attack. I don't know about anyone else, but I am sick and tired of being afraid. I am sick of these idiots trying to take away my peace of mind. We do not have much left in this world if that is taken away. I am flying to go on my honeymoon in September and now because of these "people" ( term used loosely) I may not get to have a carry-on bag, and I don't have the basic right of having a bottle of water with me. And another thing, If I had children and they told me that I needed to drink my own breast milk, I would not only have a few things to say to them, but to a lawyer as well. Because of the few, the many have to pay the price. Even if they didn't go thru with their mission, they still are successful, nevertheless.

Here's a snippet from a World Net Daily,
"Other sources within the bureau and the Central Intelligence Agency said the administration is pressuring intelligence agencies to develop "something, anything" to support an array of non-specific terrorism alerts issued by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security…CHB reported that FBI and CIA sources said a recent White House memo listing the war on terrorism as a definitive political advantage and fund-raising tool is just one of many documents discussing how to best utilize the terrorist threat.”
To appease, to prepare, to scare, and control.

It is rather convenient, I would go with it being over hyped rather than made up though.
But then again this happens all the time. The Brighton bombing looked a little supicious too.
I am sure that Gov and intelligence look the other way at times and make a big deal out of things at other times.
When the revolution comes...

The West is not in majority support of Israel in this conflict so no. I think it is more likely to be a genuine reaction from Islamic Terrorists who are angry about Lebanon and are blaming the West for Israel's actions.

What a load of over hyped nonesense this is. With John Reids speech yesterday about removing freedom in exchange for security.
I am willing to bet that the people detained today will be quietly released or deported in a month or two.

No, it has diverted public attention away from the Israeli invasion while Blair is on holiday and Bush can inflame the Arab people even more by calling them fascists.
Remember when Adolf Hitler burnt down the Reichtag building and blamed the Communists, people always ignore the lessons of history.

with you on this 100% - most folks see through the political shenanigans of the past 5 years as a way of rallying the population thru fear tactic in order to control dwindling oil reserves. We have forgotten that Bush's oil company was funded via the bin laden family, and todays non-event is another tool to make us look to our elected governments to make us feel safe when all they need to do is stop supporting the Bush administrations present middle eastern policies. It wont be long before they are talking about attacking Iran.

security services are in a no win situation.
arrest before anything happens and the cynics are out in force (see previous answers).
Wait for explosions to happen and they are dismissed as useless.
Proof will be in how many of the 21 stand trual and are sent down.

Since it had nothing to do with Isreal or even the same terrorist group in Lebanon, I don't know how it can.

It certainly came at a very convenient time. If all the people arrested are released without charge in the next few days, it's time we stormed the barricades.
