They are slightly hung up on the day of the Sabbath being Saturday and only "real" Christians worship on that day. There are some slight doctrinal differences as well and some disagreements over the unfolding of Revelations. They believe Christians will be here through the Tribulation. Other than that, they have some issues with red meat. That's about it. I grew up near two Adventist families and I learned a lot from them. It's best to try and stick to what we can agree on and there is quite a bit.

The problem is your question.

Adventists would define themselves as Christian and in their official teachings would define most of Christianity as not Christian or at least false. They are part of the sectarian movement, which is a group of Churches that each have found the correct way, the other members are usually considered false, and do sincerely believe they are the ones who have it correct.

Compared to other parts of the sectarian movement, they are a little more strict, but not much. Their origin was the belief that the Second Coming would happen in 1843. When it didn't come they recalculated it to 1844. In order to survive they joined with the Seventh Day movement. They are still waiting, their calculations of the time of the arrival of Jesus have been off since the beginning.

The largest difference is their certainty that they alone are correct and the rest of the world is wrong. It doesn't seem to occur to them that the rest of Christianity reads the same passages and disagrees with their interpretation. They haven't thought through the implications that they are in fundamental error nor the implications of that as a possibility.

They're born again Christians. One of my best friends is an SDA and she tries to live to the principles but breaks so many of them. Then she says "They're guidelines, not rules". She does keep a vegetarian diet and no longer drinks alcohol(unless she's really upset, and I've only known her to drink twice in the 4 years she's been born again), and no longer smokes. She doesn't wear jewelry other than a belly button ring and sometimes a watch. She doesn't think it's okay to go to a movie theater but watching movies at home is okay as long as they're basically pg-13. She wears makeup and wants a boob job, but then would have to go to another church since you're not supposed to care that much about your looks. She has frequent premarital sex(with a fellow SDA; they've been together 7 years and he won't commit to her and cheats on her all the time) and has been pregnant 3 times(2 abortions and 1 tubal miscarriage).
I feel SDA's have more strict rules than regular Christianity, about more issues.

Not that much. Only difference is they go by the bible only and do not follow any of the Catholic teachings as most do. They go direct by the bible in other things also, like the state of the dead, the health laws that were not just given to Jews but to man. There were no Jews when the health laws were given so how could it be Jewish? Jew comes from Judah and the tribes were not even divided yet. Also the Sabbath day that God made was Saturday, not Sunday. Sunday is the day the Catholic church changed it to and then boasts about it in their writings that the protestants claim to be going by the bible but they follow its teachings on Sunday so they are in fact following their teachings and claiming it to be the bible way.

No, but we are different from traditional teachings of Christianity. Such as what happens after death, what to eat and not to eat, etc. We are Christians, but people have a hard time accepting us. We preach the extreme importance of how you should be ready for when Jesus comes again. We preach from the Word of God and we are based on it also. We also preach that Saturday is the true Sabbath as stated in the Bible.

They are pretty mainstream, just emphasizing that the sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday.
