The Dr. said that my mom has lack of Oxygen to the brain. He said she's at an 87% when they want everyone to be over 90% & that it drops even lower @ night. He said this could cause her to act confused & stumble. He doesn't want to give her an Oxygen tank @ home, because she smokes & he said it's 2 dangerous. Other tests have been ran, there's nothing else major wrong w/her health. But here lately, she's been acting very strange. Falling out of bed @ night. I've found her in the floor, talking to herself, in the middle of the night a few times this week. She took the vent grate out of the floor, one night had her clothes off. Asking strange questions. Could lack of oxygen cause this or is it possible she may have started sleep walking all of a sudden? She has also stopped wanting to bathe or even change clothes. She wears the same thing everyday. She's already on medication for dementia. I was hoping someone could help give some possibilities 4 this behavior b4 I take her bk 2 the Dr.

All of the things that you described your mother doing can result from a lack of O2 to the brain. Since she has been diagnosed with this, this is where these odd behaviors are coming from. The less O2 she gets, the worse it will get. Disorientation and other odd behavior are common results of this. She may also exhibit signs of dementia, like forgetting names, people, ect. You should push for options if things begin to get worse. If it comes to it, you are going to have to make her quit smoking so you can help save her life. Not to mention, quitting smoking may improve the problem.

She needs to quit smoking and get oxygen. A lack of O2 will cause all the symptoms you described. It is very severe and can lead to permanent heart and brain damage and a much shortened life.

The Dr.'s right, if she has O2 and smokes, it can burst into flames and kill her and anyone in the house. You hear about it in the news all the time.

If she keeps smoking and gets no O2, she's dead fairly soon. If she quits smoking and gets O2, she may have many decent years left. Her choice, but you may be able to influence it.

Assuming you know basic biology, every cell in the body requires oxygen and nutrients to continue with its functions and carry out replications etc. Brain is no different, it is made up of countless cells carrying out the functions that brain carry out. When a significant amount of the cells are dead, the brain can no longer function and hence brain damage. Similar scenario can happen to other parts of the body. Eg, cutting off blood supply to you feet, soon it'll turn blue and leaving it longer it'll be dead.

Please convenes your mother to stop smoking ASAP. she need to be on oxygen. A pulse ox should be between 95-100%, 87% is NOT good, 85% is very critical. Lack of O2 to the brain causes permanent brain damage. I would think her smoking would be out weighted when it comes to falling on the floor and hallucinating. She will probably be admitted if you tell the doctor she is having these symptoms (no smoking then), really you need to tell here doctor the whole truth. GOOD LUCK XOXO

It's important to say that tinnitus is a symptom and not a disease. Some people will have tinnitus because their Cochlea is damaged. And in a few, it could be caused due to hearing loss. But of course, the most common cause of tinnitus is exposure to loud noises. The noise can be a sudden burst, or it could be a constant banging that hits the ear drum and travels inside.

A good guide you can read about tinnitus and some good natural remedies can be found here: http://tinnitus.toptips.org

The Short Term

Sniffing can make you sick. For example, victims may become nauseated, forgetful, and unable to see things clearly. Some victims lose control of their bodies, including use of the arms and legs. You don't look real cool stumbling around high from inhalants. Side effects can last 15 to 45 minutes after sniffing. People who sniff often act intoxicated and experience short-term memory loss as well.

The Long Term

*

potential "sudden sniffing death," even for first-time users
*

permanent brain damage
*

hearing loss
*

increased heart rate
*

arm or leg spasms
*

bone marrow damage
*

liver and kidney damage
*

damage of an unborn baby, if pregnant

Chronic inhalant abusers may exhibit symptoms such as anxiety, excitability, irritability, or restlessness that can lead to violent behavior.

Brain damage, confusion, memory loss, disorientation. Ultimately, death, but probably not at 87%. Get her to quit smoking; she needs the O2.
