Why not check it all, folks ask? Because baggage handler and/or TSA personnel are notorious for stealing items from checked bags. So, there is no way I'm going to put my laptop, digital camera, GPS or cell phone in my checked bags!

Haven't you been watching TV. No toothpaste, no shampoo, conditioner, nothing gel type, in other words - only clothes in your carry-on. Why not just check it all, then no problem. In your purse if you carry one only essentials, credit cards, check book, money. Have fun traveling.
