You should definitely tell him by being honest. When you are both in a comfortable situation (maybe out for dinner or something like that) just let him know that your feelings have grown into something more.

You don't want to ignore it because if he ends up with a girlfriend, you are going to resent her and resent him for being with her. It turns into an uncomfortable situation.
