My son is about to have his 7th birtday and has asked for a pair also. I don't know much about them but i would assume they are as safe as a pair of skates. I would buy them knee and elbow pads, maybe even a helmut for them to practice on them. Good luck!

Personally, I cant stand these shoes. Only because I have seen so many parents not control their kids while wearing them. I have almost knocked over so many kids in the store, ran over them in the street that I think they are a safety hazard. The kids need to be made to wear protection. Its no different than rollerblades or skates.

I see them on so many kids today it is ridiculous!
But, they all want them.
Just make sure they practice with them before you go out in public.
My 12 year old has them & he fell his first day & hit his head & knocked the wind out of himself. But , he learned fairly quickly.
They are NOT allowed at school, & some places are starting to ban them. They have shoes that you can take the wheels out & insert plugs. I would suggest them, so there is an option.

I've seen kids walking around in these, and it always freaks me out when out of nowhere they start gliding around! They are all the rage now, though. I've never seen a kid fall with them, and I don't think they roll too fast. Probably safe enough, used properly (not down concrete steps!!)

My 11-year-old stepson has a pair. He's autistic (high functioning) and not exactly t he most coordinated kid on earth but he's never fallen with them on! I do have to get after him as he thinks it's cool to wear them to the store and start gliding down the aisles!

I've never seen any kids fall down while wearing them, but I've seen some very slick wheel maneuvers!

Safe? What would be the fun in that?
They probably will need some serious protection.
