I was looking at the DEA website and it said if i got a degree and 3 or more years experience in special skills such as Pilot/Maritime i will have a chance to join. What do they mean by Maritime?
Will joining the Coast Guard be good?

DEA, like the military and other LE agencies, want to train their own at a young age. And like the military, federal LE agencies separate themselves by inspectors (enlisted) and agents (officers). Inspectors are lower paid and do more hands on operations. Agents are college grads and are paid more. Agents investigate crimes to support prosecution, and build cases from scratch. If you can get a degree during your first enlistment you will be young and mature enough to be of interest of federal LE agencies. But waiting to get a degree after spending four or more years in the military may make you less competitive. A option is to enter the reserves while attending college, you get both the military and academic experience. If you don't get recruited by the Feds, you will have the military to fall back on. As a CG Narcotics Intel officer in the 90', I worked closely with Customs, DEA, FBI, NSA, and INS agents. They were all good men. I was involved with hundreds of drug seizures, including the largest cocaine bust at the time (>2000 lbs). Those who dislike narcotics agents are either grossly ignorant of what these agents do or they have a guilty conscience and fear they may be caught..
