accept what you did and the consequences for it instead of trying to mitigate your own self-righteous ego and weasel out of what you did

Well, you could try being extra good; follow all the rules to the letter, maybe do some extra chores.
But, you're being punished for a reason. Have you thought about why? If you really don't understand, talk to your parents. (Don't yell; have a frank discussion. If you really think your punishment was unfair, tell them why. And just a note: the "everybody else is doing it" argument doesn't usually fly. Find some other reasons.)
My best advice: tough out the punishment, learn from your mistakes, and don't do whatever got you in trouble again!

who is punishing you and what for? many times we are the ones punishing ourselves, beating up ourselves for mistakes we made or things we were accused of doing. one, everybody makes mistakes - none you could make would be new. second, God loves you - no matter how hard that may sound. third, ask Him to help you. Reach out for Jesus, the Savior; just ask for His help, He'll come.

It always helps to be honest about what you did. Just don't forget to be remorseful also. Let them know you are sorry for what you did. Of course if you aren't sorry you probably deserve the punishment.
