Dogs can understand a few simple words, as long as they're easily distinguishable from each other (like sit, lay down, etc.) They don't have a human vocabulary, so they probably don't understand the meaning of your words, but they will understand your tone - so if you're saying "I love you" in a really mean voice, the dog will most likely drop his ears, but if you say the same words in a nice tone, you are reassuring him.

Yes, they can understand certain words. I tell my dog to act like a silly boy and he rolls around on the floor and acts silly. He also understands, "go for a ride" and "lets go pee." The more training you do the better your dog will understand.

Yes, dogs understand. Not the words but the tone of your voice and the actions you use. Plus if you say it often and add a treat, he'll catch on.

Yes dogs do understand human words. But remember that they also understand human reactions. So make sure that when you are praising him to be very loving and smiling. When punishing him dont over react cause that could really scare them and they dont forget that very easily.

We had a Yorkshire Terrier for several years.
He had loads of toys and they all had names.
If we put all his toys (there was at least 12) in a pile and told him to get a certain one - he always came back with the correct toy.
He knew every single one by name.

Yes! We understand - mostly by the tone of your voice and repetitive words.
