In American classrooms with which I am familiar, sex education is not really about how to have sex. It's mainly the scientific rudiments of reproduction; you know, ovaries, menstruation, sperm, testosterone and estrogen, embryos and fetuses. They probably show some very dull clinical illustrations of the human body unclothed, but nothing very exciting.

Some braver teachers talk about contraception, masturbation and homosexuality, but the Evangelical Christians in the country are trying their darndest to discourage that.

If any teacher was caught showing pornography to his or her sex education classes, that teacher would be immediately fired and have his or her teaching license revoked.

No. Even in a comprehensive sex education class, they won't teach you how to have sex, they'll just teach you about the different methods of contraceptives and such. They might, however, show you some pictures of STDs, especially if it's an abstinence-only class (boo) using scare tactics. Then you'll see disgusting diseased genitals, but it's in a medical sense, and not in a pornographic sense.

Sex education is a flaky thing in America. You see it is still a taboo subject and it is deemed more appropriate by many educational facilities to teach abstinence rather than teach the practice of safe sex. If there is a program in place for sex education it is usually separated into all boy and all girl groups. In which they are shown diagrams of certain reproductive organs, told their function and shown a completely outdated video on the subject. After that the boys and girls are brought together and taught about STD's and all the other horrible disease that are possible in order to scare them into abstinence.

You should think of it as sexual health education. Its not a how to or which is hotter class; its more of a what is and what can go wrong kind of class. Diagrams and pictures of internal organs are used but not pictures except for interviews with people talking about things and answering questions.

The big battles are whether even this kind of information encourages sex before marriage or prevents disease and unplanned pregnancies. Most shy away from anything but cursory discussion of the emotional implications.

They show scientific films about the body and differences between men and women physically, mentally and hormonally. It is very boring. They tell everything from a scientific perspective and explain the function and science behind how babies are conceived and born. They do not teach you how to have sex or show porn.

Usually taught to kids around 12-13 ish

They don't show porn. They show diagrams (almost cartoonish) They don't show the people actually "doing it". They just show where the vagina is , where the penis is, where the penis goes, etc. Not to graphic, because they teach you in 5th grade. I didn't even know how exactly to "do it" after sex ed.

the health teacher does, they usually have a video about STD's and show graphic pictures of what the disease does to your body. they pass out condoms and show everyone how to use them. they go over the male and female reproductive organs, teaching the proper names for everything.

sex education is not a how-to program. it is about
being responsible. too many kids already know how,
but they do not understand that pregnancy and/or
disease can and probably will happen to them. that is
where education comes in.
