We know that Yahoo! answers has different language sections (English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, etc) but I thought maybe there should be a section for all the people who use 'teen text' because I find it often unintelligible. Since they're too stupid or lazy to use the spell checker, at least by having their own language section they will not be wasting the time of those of us who are at least reasonably literate in the English language. I know I'm not a perfect speller myself, that's why I use the spell checker so people who read my questions will be able to UNDERSTAND them!

I want to apologize to annoying bookworm 23. I didn't mean to stereotype all teenagers as illiterate. I'll use the less offensive phrase, 'instant messaging text' instead.

That's funny. That's actually a big problem on the French Yahoo! Answers (I'm French), because French young people always use SMS (that's how it's called, there - no idea what it stands for, though) when they text (which is normal because sending a text can be quite expensive in France, above all if you send about 20 texts a day) and also when they write in forums, and some tend to do it on Yahoo! Answers, which pisses pretty much everybody off!

I mean, the service is free, so there's no reason to do it. What's more, writing on a computer keyboard is much less annoying than writing on a mobile phone.

But I think people have been complaining so much and giving such rude answers sometimes that I think less and less people are doing it, now.

What's more, it's for their own good: when you read some people's questions or answers, you wonder if they have ever been to school! Their spelling, grammar, and grammatical structures are just terrible! They really have to make an effort and take the opportunity of improving their writing by reading a bit more.

Well I think the best thing about introducing such a category would be that the dorks will hopefully keep just to that category and communicate with individuals of their own "species".

Yep, I'm a 17 year old but i find it highly annonying when i get a text message that has to be deciphered before i get a slight idea on what the jerk on the other end is trying to convey... No seriously, what sense should i make out of something like "dt wld b rly gr8 f cld mt m 8 d cf" - i had to call up and ask... It turned out to be " That'd be really great if you could meet me at the cafe "...

C'mon guys.. punch in a few more letters and respect English...

No, it shouldn't. People who use "AOL speak" should be rounded up and put into an intensive English class for at least two months until they find being too lazy to add two letters to "u" to make an actual word as repulsive as most who actually use correct language do.

People who are too stupid or lazy to use an actual language while trying to communicate are one of my biggest pet peeves.

no, because laziness does not constitute a different language. by the way, I consider your calling it "teen text" an insult. I'm a teenager, but that doesn't mean that I type like an idiot.

No that's pathetic. America is already known for being too lazy, that would be too "rubbing it in."

I agree. Also there should be a "British" section. I have a PRETTY good idea what (fookin') is, but I won't way it.
