Neosporin to heal the wound, peroxide (diluted if needed) to clean it, hydrocortisone cream and/or Gold Bond powder to soothe the itching, Benadryl for the itch (esp if its an allergy) - BUT ASK YOUR VET FOR A DOSAGE ON THE BENADRYL FIRST. Don't want to be knocking out or killing the poor thing. Also, I'd keep him inside away from the heat and bugs, and put flea meds on him if you haven't already. My dog has hot spots bad, especially in this heat, we finally had to get him an e-collar to keep him from licking so bad. Good luck!

The best thing you can do is take your dog to the vet. If you want to try a home remedy first you might try the following. Instructions Things You'll Need: Scissors (preferably grooming scissors) Mild antiseptic or astringent Washcloth Step 1 Trim away the hair around the hot spot to prevent it from spreading further. This will also expose the edges of the sore to treatment. Step 2 Wash the sore with a mild astringent or antiseptic. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. Step 3 Apply a cold compress such as a cool, wet washcloth several times a day. This will help to ease your dog's pain and itching. Step 4 Apply a little topical relief. You can go all-natural with tea tree oil or even wet teabags, or you can use cortisone ointment or spray. Step 5 Take your dog to the vet if the home remedies do not appear to be working. Your vet may prescribe stronger remedies and may also supply your dog with an Elizabethan collar, a plastic cone that will prevent a dog from reaching a wound to chew on or lick it.

Your dog either has impacted anal glands, tapeworms, or fleas around his butt he can't reach. You need to first find out WHY he is rubbing his rear end. When a dog gets to the point of having a hot spot you really need to take it to the vet so they can give it a cortizone injection to stop the itch cycle, diagnose the underlying problem, and put it on some antibiotics to cure the infection it is getting from the hot spot. The longer you wait the worse it will get. Topical ointments at this stage aren't going to do much for the dog. Even topical with cortizone won't do more than give the dog temporary partial relief. Take it to the vet.

It sounds like it may even be an ear infection. I have lots of experience with hot spots and that doesn't sound like one. I would see your vet.

For hotspots themselves, I have found the best remedy to be a proactive treatment. A tablespoon of flax oil or another high-omega oil on food once a day helped immensely and I haven't seen one since.

That does not sound like a hot spot. Sound like he got into something or something bit him. Try a little hydrogen peroxide and water mixture (if the wound is open it might burn if straight). Then I would call a vet asap.

Neosporine will heal the hot spot and relieve the itching. If it doesn't help in a couple of days, get your pet to a pet.

That doesn't sound like hot spots at all. That sounds much more like worms. Please take your dog to the vet right away.
