I have stated to get it in little patches on my feet, and more so on my neck, these two places dont bother me a much as I can cover these areas with little effort, But more embarassingly I have got it in the insides of my legs and with the summer here now I dont feel I can wear bikinis? Anyone else suffering with this? How do you deal with it?

Most people who have this--and other problems (such as port wine stained birthmarks, varicose veins, and bad scaring)--use a product called Dermablend. The people at the cosmetics counter are trained to show you exactly how to use it. As I understand it, it's waterproof and can be used anywhere on the body.

I have vitiligo too, and although at first I really hated it (and I still do) but there are little things you can do.

The best way to cover it up is with a little self-tanning cream, although this can be strenuous because you then have to smear the cream all over your leg etc but it does give you a seamless tan!

Also, though this is very annoying, don't go in the sun too much, especially in the summer because the rest of your skin will tan (I did it once and I ended up looking a bit like a panda). This is really a blessing in disguise as if you stay out of the sun the chance of you getting wrinkles and skin cancer when you're older will go down. However little doses of sun are not so bad.

Also, go and see a dermatologist. I went to one and mine gave me a cream called ProTopic. This lessened my vitiligo a little but it did not go away, but then again mine's quite bad, if you just have little spots of it it might work better.

Don't worry the solution to vitiligo will come sooner than later!

Cream to Powder by mary Kay. Don't tell my husband I said this, but when I first started my MK business, I used him as a guinea pig. He has severe vitiligo and I was really suprised how well it covered for him... Even with five o'clock shadow! Pick a shade that is right between your darkest and lightest areas... Its better to lean more toward your paler color and then use a good blush, with very little pink, to add some color.

You can get a special 'make-up' on prescription but you should know that it can be very significantly reduced by diet. My mum used to have a really bad case of vitiligo for about 20 years and after about 3 months you'd have never thought she used to suffer from it.

I understand that vitiligo is one effect of a systemic yeast syndrome. Check www.hufa.org to get more info on this pernicious problem.

I have some patches on my arms and jaw. I would just use makeup - water resistent makeup if necessary, if possible. I don't know if tatooing would "re-pigment" an area like that.

I have had vitiligo since hitting puberty. Ultra violet treatment works, also Roc do special creams to blend in with your skin tone. You need total sun block in the summer to cover white patches. I have a huge patch on my stomach and I got a tattoo right in the middle of it so now people's attention is drawn to tattoo and they don't notice the white patch. I don't care on holiday now if people notice, most think it is a birth mark.

I was diagnosed with this over 25 years ago by two different doctors who told me "its permanent and you just have to live with it"
Me being me i went to a third doctor who told me not to worry its just a yeast based infection.
He gave me some ointment ,pretty sure it was called caneston.
within a week it was gone and has not returned.
In my case it just goes to show its worth getting another opinion
