If you live in the country where your language is spoken then there's no need to learn English. If, on the other hand, you have come to the United States to live your life will be better and easier if you learn the language. You cannot expect Americans to be able to understand a language from a country other than the U.S. any more than an American can expect people in a country that speaks another language to understand English. Many people come to the United States for a better living situation. Americans tend to hope those people will want to become Americans. If you refuse to learn our language and want to re-create your own country here, then Americans often feel that you don't want to be one of us. You want our country to change to accommodate you.
I, personally, know I probably would have serious difficulty learning a new language if I moved to a country where English is not spoken. I have great respect for people who have the courage to leave their country and come to a different one. It cannot be easy.
At the same time, most Americans love their own country for the same reasons many immigrants come here. It isn't such a horrible thing that many Americans would like immigrants to join us rather than remain foreign outsiders.who don't speak the lanugage here. With all the nationalities that have native languages different from English that are in this country, it is really not awfully possible for Americans to be able to accommodate all of them. (Look at a form from a government agency and all the languages that are on it.) And, yes, there is something kind of offensive to many Americans about people who appear to want to come to this country to get what they can (even if that's something as "legitimate" as their own safety or a good education) without becoming a part of our country
If you have children and live in the U.S. the best thing you can do is help them speak the language where they will go to school and/or be able to communicate well with their teachers and others who you may have to deal with..
If you don't live here nobody cares if you know English or not.
Finally and for the record, there are - without a doubt - plenty of Americans who are rude. They aren't the majority, and I'm pretty certain there are plenty of rude (to say the least) Arabs in the world as well. If you don't live here you may have a misguided idea of how most Americans are. If you do live here, and believe that Americans are so rude then maybe, really, you would prefer to return to where your language is spoken.
Every country has its percentage of the population with rotten behavior in one degree or another. Every time someone dislikes the U.S. they "play the rude card". If the only thing any country has to be ashamed of is that it has some rude people in it that's kind of least of anyone's problems these days....

Thats just the language we speak in America. Speak the language that is spoken most in the country you live in. People are impolite on the internet because they can be without getting into any real trouble. Do not be offended by cyber ignorance.

I don't care who you are, if you are in America you should learn English. If you are in England you should learn English. If you are in ANY country where the primary language is English, you should learn it. If I went to France then it would be MY responsibilty to learn French. If I went to Quebec it would be my responsibilty to learn French, although the rest of Canada I would be ok with knowing English. If I go to Spain it is up to me to learn Spanish, if I go to Italy I should know Italian or be willing to learn it. I could go on and on in this list but I think you see my point. If you go live in a country then you have the responsibilty to learn that country's primary language. You should be able to communicate in it and should be able to at least well enough to let people know that you are trying to learn the language. I think that really should be one of the first things we teach people to say. Teach them to say I am new here and I am trying to learn your language. That way people wouldn't be as annoyed by the heavy accent and the broken English. Anyway if you aren't in America, or an English speaking country, then you should learn English as it is the language of Buisness right now. Can't really think of any other reasons to learn it though.

You should learn the language of any country you relocate into. I learned Spanish when I was relocated to Mexico. When I travel to other countries I learn phrases, carry a bilingual dictionary of that country. That is showing respect for the people in that country you are in.
If I was traveling to the middle east, I would do the same thing. Try it. Ignore and blow off what a moron said.

If you live in America, you should learn the language. It's only respectful. It is also a universal language. It's something everybody should know in order for all to communicate. Keep in mind, that English isn't the first language of the US.

You don't have to learn English unless you are planning on living here in the USA. As citizen of the USA we should be more open to learning your language because you have to learn ours. Of course it shouldn't be mandatory but why not better ourselves and learn to speak with people from another nation they way they can speak with us. I am sorry he was so rude to you. Some Americans are, but not all of us.

Are you saying the USA is polite ? "by polite like usa nation" I would think one of the main reasons you would want to speak English would be to communicate with the people in your community. I think it would be very difficult to live somewhere and be unable to communicate your needs, ect. to someone. Good luck.

Until you learn the english language you may want to refrain from posting on here because it is very hard to understand.
If you live in the USA then you should speak proper English...that is just the way it works!
