When my kitten was five weeks old, we transitioned her from drinking formula out of a bottle to drinking water out of a bottle, since we weren't sure she was lapping water out of a bowl yet and we didn't want her to get dehydrated. Water should be fine, but as long as the kitten is eating soft foods. If the kitten's only nutritional source is the formula, you'll want to continue the formula until the kitten is able to eat. You might want to check with the vet on this, though. The formula shouldn't cause the kitten to be congested. Make sure that the kitten is sucking from the bottle, and you are not accidentely forcing the formula down the kitten's throat. If you do that, the kitten might inhale some formula into it's lungs and that would cause congestion.
Sorry about your sick kitten :-(
Hope it gets better soon!

Call your vet to see what's to be done next! I have some recommendations, but switching over to a new diet might not be the best thing to do right now. Read on....
My vet, a feline specialist, told me kittens can become intolerant to milk (mother's milk or formula) starting at 4-5 weeks old and is the first one to convince me weaning could be a good thing.
You could give the kitten water, but it should also be eating kitten food. If it's sick, the vet may recommend A/D which is a prescription diet. AD is a moist cat food that is recommended because of its palatability and high calorie content.
Start by using a teaspoon to teach the kitten to eat solids.
Other things I've used for kittens:
Eukanuba for kittens. If your kitten is just learning to eat, crush it up - and easy way to do this is put it in a freezer bag & use a rolling pin to crush it. Then moisten with sterile water.
Waltham (Royal Canin) Growth: crush and moisten as above.
Benibac with help restore the intestinal flora that antibiotics destroy - it is help w/a sick kitty. It's made by Pet-Ag (the makers of KMR - Kitten Milk Replacer).
Good luck with that baby!

yes, give the kitten some water inbetween the formula feedings. If I remember right an antibiotic will cause some congestion. You could also water down the formula some before feeding your kitten. Good Luck.

If the kitten is still sick even after getting antibiotics, take it back to the vet.
It really needs all the nutrients in the kitten formula - they grow at an incredible speed, and can't afford to miss out on them!

there is formula fantastically for kittens... in case you stay in a community with a feedstore, it is going to likely be a lot less intense priced than identifying to purchase it from a puppy furnish save or vet medical institution.. examine the phone e book and get in contact with ahead to work out in the adventure that they inventory it... should be decrease than $10 a container... i could imagine that infant formula may harm a kitten because that's no longer nutritionally balanced an similar way...

Yes I got my kitten when she was 4-5 weeks old and she drank water right away. We also fed her milk diluted with a lot of water.
