Bill Gates isn't religious and how much do you think he donates? Just search the internet, you'll find plenty of atheist and humanist organizations who donate time, money, valuables, etc. What do atheists have to do, choose a representative and hold a press conference?

Your question implies that all God believers would react in the same way.

Odd, because atheism tries to be grounded in reality... but if you honestly believe that the billions of people on this planet who believe in God would more or less all react the same way, well, that seems to indicate a lack of awareness of reality on your part.

Then again, that's why we have Yahoo Answers, I suppose.

So, to answer: some believers would be glad that the poor are being helped by anyone at all; some would insist (loudly, probably) that good works are not important, only one's confession of faith is; some would look for ulterior motives or underhanded dealings, because they're not capable of conceiving that atheists can do good things; and the vast majority would never notice, because, honestly, compared to the world's religious sects and denominations, there just aren't a lot of large organized atheist groups. I can't imagine, for instance, that your typical small church in Ecuador notices Ellen Johnson's political dealings.

Done baiting now?

They'd still think the Atheist are going to Hell. They may scream that it’s the antichrist since it’s now popular to think the antichrist will bring about world peace, which is apparently a bad thing!

However, there are secular groups that do a lot of good work for human kind. Humanitarian Secularists, for example, and other groups look out for human interest and benefit.

Agnostics and Atheists donate more money to good causes than any religious group... people of faith donate to their church so their pedophile priest can pay their legal bills... so pastors can live in mansions, buy Gulfstream jets, and have air-conditioned dog houses.

Agnostics and Atheists donate money for medical research, AIDS prevention/education and other causes that have a positive direct impact in the world. They do it because they care and aren't interested in publicly impressing anyone.

How do you know that atheists don't already give their time and money to charitable organizations? Many do it out of goodness and because it is what they wish to do, they do not need to have it splashed on the front page so everyone can see. They don't need "Look here I am aren't I good?". I would think a good deal of us have more self-esteem than that.

They'd be happy that other people aside from them are taking humanitarian actions. Though there are non-religious organizations that spend money to feed the poor, religious organizations have been responsible for most of it. Christians would be (and should be) glad that other people care for humanity, even though in a different way.

I think all that needs to happen is for the people who are currently giving and caring people to tell Christians they are Atheists.

I don't know if they're all "atheists" per se, but scientists (all of whom know that the bible is not the literal truth) have saved the world and its people on countless occasions, and lead the way to a very bright and wonderous future.

Who cares. I'm an athiest, volunteer 20 hours a week, donate what i can, but i don't care what other people think. Why would it matter?

Atheists donate as much as other citizens, we just don't make a big deal out of it, or earmark it as "coming from an atheist."

Plus, we don't have "groups" per se, as organized religions do.
