I know what you mean, most of my high school friends have moved out of California due to the high cost of living and I find that I have just 2 friends that I talk to regularly. My advice: Get out of the house and mingle! AND keep the communication flowing and be diligent about staying in contact! Even if it's just to say hi or to go to Starbucks... (many friendships fade because people are too "busy" to phone or email friends). Take the time to do it! You'll soon discover that you'll be invited to social outings more and more, which will give you the opportunity to meet more people. A lot of the friends you make, are through other friends. If worse comes to worse, you can always contact me! I live in Cali, but I'd be happy to chat with ya. PS. Don't let being a single parent limit you! Life is too short.

dear lady:)

Before donig anything, think of your own position. You are a single mom, with a child. meaning, lots of commitments and sacrifies. So maybe the best thing is, while you search for friends, make a small compromis. The friend of yours is suposed to respect you for what u r doing, and not letting some other(irrelevant) motives come more imporatnt.
Very important is that you find a friend who has understanding. That's what you need.

He or she can't be a treath to a child at all, and do never put any of your friends above ur childs wishes.

But be warned, dear mom, that most of friends u make are very probably with u because they think u might be of a use. Not literally, (even u r doing it:), but try choosing those who don't lie too much, or even hide. Don't look for adventuorus ones. It all changes stuff:)

I am in a similar situaion. I'll be anxious to read t e answers. I have family but everyone else is sooo busy that I don't know how to make friends either. You could have people over, but thats one night or day. You can call people up and make plans but that is usually hard to coordinate. Dinner parties? Lunch with a friend? goo d luck

Find some other single parents with children around the same age, then your kids can have friends too

The Internet is a cool place to make friends, just make your next question sound like, does anyone want to hang out with me and your e-mail, you will get a lot of new friends soon. Even if it's virtual at the beginning.

usually you make friends in social gatherings, like church, work, school. I know what you mean. I moved to atlanta a few years ago and I can't seem to find many long lasting friends. I always find someone I can chill out with for a while but eventually I find that we don't have much in common, for one, I don't have kids and most women my age (25) dose.

I would think because you have a child, you would probably meet tons of adults during school functions.

However, you could always join a class or attend local functions in your community.

Good luck...
