I teach yoga and I can tell you that any age can do it. Everyone enters into class at a different age, and at a different level, and with a different body type as well.
Yoga has many benefits physcially as well as mentally, I especially love the mental part. You will want to get into a beginner yoga class, or if there is'nt one offered near you, just go into a regular class, I would suggest that you introduce yourself to the instructor and let her know you're new, and she can help you as she goes.
Physically you will become more flexible, graceful, toned, and stronger.
Mentally you will become more relaxed, focused, and stress free, the more you do it. One of the reasons it relieves stress, is because you are so focused in class. You are centered on your briething, your poses, and you are concentrating on only what you're doing, instead of what happened during the day, it is excellent emotionally. I always tell my students when to breathe, when to move, and I remind them to forget about everythng else.
I think you would love it. You an also order a dvd to do at home for beginners if this is what you would like too. I find the club atmosphere is really nice, and we always make new friends who are doing the same things as we are, there's a great partnership here. Hope this helps, pick up your mat and go! (They will usually have mats there for you too if you don't own one)

Yoga is for any age, size and ability, I've been going to yoga for just over a year, it helps with weight loss and revive and refresh your organs, puts fresh oxygen in your blood and helps with blood flow, Even if you have problems with back pain, knee joints, yoga can help, you just have to pick a yoga style you like, so try out different ones, I do bikram yoga in a heated room, but it's not for everyone and hard work when it's a heat wave outside.

Well
Yoga can be a great friend in every diet. It's all about hormones balance. There are no "bad" hormones. But when hormones get unbalanced, bad things happen in your body. Your body releases cortisol when you're under stress. It's part of the whole “fight or flight” response. Increased cortisol levels could be making you fat. The kind of fat you are most likely to store from elevated cortisol is called visceral fat — the dangerous belly fat that’s linked to diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

I'm following this great online program that teaches how to use YOGA to lose weight. You should check it out as well. This is the link of the site: http://yogafitness.toptips.org
Have a nice day

There are no cons to yoga. Its incredibly gentle on your body. The pros are decreased blood pressure, less stress, amazing flexibility in parts of your body that usually would not receive that kind of exercise. My classmates range from young teenagers to people in their 80s. All body shapes. One of my classmates is 58 and about 250 pounds - she is down from almost 400 through diet and exercise, including yoga and Tai Chi (no gastric bypass there - she's doing it the hard way!).

Yoga is something you can do your entire life. It makes you really in tune with your body and what's going on with it. It also makes you really appreciate what your body can do. Mine has flaws, but you know what? Its beautiful, strong, healthy and it really works! I'm 36 and a yoga devotee. The benefits are truly amazing.

By the way - my butt now sits three inches higher then when I started doing yoga. At my age everything is supposed to sag - nope! It really tightens up everything.

The word Yoga(m) is used in several contexts-Yoga Vaasistam-(Hindu Religious Philosophy)-Yoga Ratnaavali(Pharmaceutics)-Yoga Paadanjalam(that is what I think you mean)-Yoga Saahasrakam(part of Ayurveda) Yoga Sanyaasam (Renunciation)-Yoga Parivraajakam(Astrology)---Paasta and Pizza are also Yoga(m) only---which Yoga you want to take up?(learn) A lot of ILLITERATE -self styled -upstart-Yoga(?) teachers have ruined Saint Padanjali's teachings. This B.K.Iyengar -Bikram were very unkind to Saint Patanjali. They did not properly introduced the subject to their students-Yoga Paadanjalam is one of the six Systems of Hindu Philosophy(please refer to the book of Dr.S.Radhakrishnan,)-,.They are Nyaayam, Vaseshikam, Saankyam,Yoga(m),Meemaamsam,Vedhaantam---Again Yoga Paadanjalam is sub-divide into 8 parts Yamam, Niyamam, Pranaayaamam,Pratyaakaaram,Aasanam,Dhyaanam,Dhaarana and Samaadhi(Vikalpam and Nirvikalpam) What these ILLITERATES teach you is only the Aasanam(Hatha Yogam)-Do NOT say I learn Yoga ,but say I learn Aasanam(Hatha Yogam)-Somayaji

My grandma did yoga into her late 60's and I used to join her at home as a kid.I think its for anyone! Its very relaxing and isn't expensive ,once you know the basics you can do it at home. Its great for toning up your whole body and keeping you supple .But any health professional would advise you to take medical advise before starting any new form of exercise in case its not suitable for you.
