i'm trying to eat a bit less carb, but i know that carbs are needed in our body. i eat 2 bowls of oatmeal everyday, but are quinoa or brown rice better choices? could they be more nutritious and lower in calories? any other good grains? thanks!

Vegetables. Very nutritious. Low in calories. Lots of fibre. Compare veggies with grains, veggies win hands down. For example:

Quick oatmeal is not healthy you should eat the steal cut oats that take longer to cook as all the good stuff hasn't been milled out. I prefer flax meal and wheat bran vs oatmeal for lower carbs.

oatmeal is the lowest in calories and fat out of the ones you listed. having 2 packets (2 bowls) of instant oatmeal is only 200 calories and 4 grams of fat (making one packet 100 calories and 2 grams of fat) with no trans fat, saturated fat, sugar (unless you put in the sugar) or any of that. you are eating pure oats, which is very healthy and full of fiber and lowers your cholesterol.
