Get yourself a hound and a pair of roller blades. Then get a pair of sunglasses and a white cane, and have that hound pull you to work. The blind routine increases your chances of not getting smeared down the road by a car.

Not sure where you live, but have you considered public transportation? I know for some that has a negative image, but in most big cities it's becoming if not a majority, close to it, who use public transportation. You can read a newspaper, nap, listen to your I-Pod or even work on a laptop...and more often than not, it's faster than sitting in traffic with everyone else. A bike is a great idea if the weather's good...but rain, heat and extreme cold doesn't seem like good times on a bike. Also, is your area bike friendly with bike lanes, right of ways and non-hostile drivers?

I ride into LA every day, which is about 100 miles a day (both ways) . With regards to traffic I'm turning what woudl be a 2 hour commute winto a 1 hour commute. I ride a cbr 900 which only gets me 40 miles to the gallon ( real miles I check myself.) a smaller 600 will get you as much as 50-60 miles to the gallon. One thing to keep in mind though is what you save in gas you might pay for in insurance. If all yoru doing is cummuting opt of a used 600 or smaller. I pay twice as much as I do for my car in insurance but this is due to the fact I'm riding a liter bike.

I think most of us are trying to find ways to beat the ole gas bandit, I know both my wife and I are biking a lot more. Sometimes for small grocery runs or errands in the neighborhood. My wife biked to work today.... We live in Minnesota and that is a tough thing to do in the Winter months, that should play role in your decision...... Ride if ya can, more people will be doing it in the future...

Depending upon how far you are going to the destination like to the store or somewhere, a bike is okay. Now if you have rainy weather or long distance, that depends.

I wouldn't ride a motorbike in rush hour traffic. I've seen too many accidents in which a car hit a motorbike.
