I think someone else asked this same thing the other day - my answer was and is that I don't think religion is the problem. People are the ones causing the confusion and segregation, disagreeing violently and hurting others.

You can be religious and respect other peoples' beliefs. That's fine and what the majority of religious people do. Many use religion as an excuse to get at each other. That's wrong and gives that religion a bad name. This is unfair, as we are talking a minority here.

personaly, i dont believe in all that religion stuff. we are just here for a couple of years and hey presto! we are dead. just like everyother life form, be it a tree, an ant or a fish.
but since humans have believed (through fear perhaps) in various gods and religions since the dawn of time, then im affraid it wont be got rid of that easy.
the fact is that we are not really that intelligent as we base this intelligence against that of a mouse or monkey ect...

Really, religion is just a way of gathering people of like mind together. Spirituality should be every person's main goal. The road to God doesn't matter, so long as you get there.

You want people to embrace a philosophy, when they can't even embrace their religion. I have some what come to terms with my spiritual self. I am a Christian/Jew/Buddhist. I might also throw in some Taoism. As for compassion I have lots, but have noticed it lacking in my fellow man.

We need religion, for there is much evidence that we are created beings.

We need to get back to understanding why the Puritans came here and why even they agreed to be tolerant of other religions, because they has been persecuted. Meaning we need to fight to let people freely express their religion and their ideas, even if we disagree.

I wish people did not have to go into a coliseum, or get burned at a stake to realize how precious liberty is, and that it is only true, yes only true, if you respect and fight for the right of someone else to think different than you do.

I mean it! Not to fight for your right to say something, but to fight for someone else's right to think different than you do. It is so easy to get upset when someone does not want to listen to what you in all your wisdom have to say. That is immature. You truly gain the right to say it when you fight for the rights of those you might disagree with. And that is what will bring people together. They will gang up on the bullies. Y!A is full of bullies that have no respect for others.

I know this sounds kind of backwards, but it is not. Right now the founder of Dominos wants to start a community of like minded catholics. The puritans used to be able to do so. Now he is getting hell for it. Where are the defenders of liberty that let him make that choice. I hear more and more lawsuits against people who want a manger scene on their lawn to freely express their beliefs.

Thus, we should not think of bringing people together, for that gives bullies a free ride. We should think of protecting people's rights to be who they are, even though we disagree. That is mature.

As far as religion, it is not up to you or anyone else. Even if one person in the world is left who believes in a God, we ought to protect their right to do so. So the issue is not religion. It is liberty.

So what is wrong? Politically correct thinking is leading us away from liberty. Our thinking is like in Cuba where kids recite certain mantras that intellectuals want them to believe, that is not what parents want them to believe. etc, etc. The gov't has to get out of the schools and local school boards need to regain total liberty to teach the beliefs of a community.

I believe that going to church every Sunday is not only conservative but the church does not preach what Jesus actually stood up for. This is why so many people are ignorant in society today. As long as you believe in yourself and you care and love your family and friends that is all that matters!I agree that people should adopt a philosophic kind of thinking but many people are too ignorant to do that.
