lets say each beer is $3, between 3 people we get 3 beers each, then the 4th round is on the house. Total tab is $27(9 beers). In this situation I'll throw the bar tender 40 bucks. What would you give?

Hey 21,

As a bartender, here is how I enjoy a tip.

$1.00 for each beer/drink served - That you pay for.

$ amount you would have spent with out the tip for free round. So if 4th round is 3 drinks, then I would tip $9.00 for just that round.

So for the situation:

9 x $3.00 = $27.00 + 4th round = $9.00 = $36.00

Your bartender considers you one of his best customers.

Congratulations

And you can drink in my bar ANYTIME! (Plus, I usually comp. the 3rd round).

How hard is it to open a beer. He/she is doing a job that they get paid to do so tip $0. If I get a mixed drink then Ill throw a couple bucks on the table every other round.

Wow. You're a good tipper. I would give the same. A dollar tip for each of the 12 beers plus an extra dollar to make it $40 dollars even.

people have been tipping a buck a drink since the frickin seventies. Adjust that for inflation and we are talking pathetic people.if the bartender bought you a round you should include the valuie of the round in your tip plus 15-20%. So to the author of the question, you are right on, everyone else should have to bartend for a year before they are allowed out again.

I would have given the bartender AT LEAST $27.00--a dollar per drink. Anything less than a dollar per drink is not fair to the server. I will give more depending upon how well the drinks are mixed or how nice the bartender is. Don't skimp on the tip, the bartender has to eat and pay rent too!!

Depends on the service, standard, I'd go with 1 dollar per beer, however I'd round up to the higher 5 spot it was better service, i.e. $40 instead of $36.

It depends. Take, for example, last night. I get to the bar then 10 seconds later some girl gets there and the guy bartender goes to her first. I'm thinking "ok this guy is a dumbfck, no tip for his fgt ***"... so i didnt tip the loser.

For me to tip a bartender... I dont give a crap how much total I spend and all that 10-15% crap. If he/she is nice and doesnt skip me to get to girls first or whatever...then you get a good tip. If not, then fck u and not one cent tip from me.

I don't usually open a tab, so I leave one $1 on the bar for each drink.
