If you body gets killed your soul goes away right? So is it attached to any particular body part like the brain? If you replace all your body parts will your soul remain with that body or leave with a certain one?

We know that it sticks around so far with arms, legs, heart and other organs are replaced. You wake up from surgery and are still there.

So what is the physical limit of soul and spirit?

The essence of who you are resides in our brain in my view. The rest is just hardware to assist our spiritual core. Whereever the brain goes, there goes the soul.

This premise is further reinforced by the realization that should the brain be substantially be damaged, it changes our personality itself. Should a person go blind or lose his hearing or become crippped or even if he or she has a heart change, these will impact his/her personality some due to the loss, but the person by and large stays the same.

Soul and spirit in my personal view are the "glow" of a living mind! In the crucible of a mud lamp can burn a lamp. For the light to exist, there has to be oil in the crucible, and someone has to light the match.

The brain needs a physical body to be "lit", and when that LIGHT is alive without the body, it is God Almighty Himself!

If all the ingredients of the lamp are present, even a flame is present somewhere, but until the lamp is lit, the lamp per se does not exist as a light giving source.

Similarly until the LORD MOST HIGH allows the lamp of a human life to be lit, the ingredients by themselves can not be lit into a living being.

I hope this makes sense.

It's is not that the soul is connected to one part, but the body as a whole being. An amputee does not loose part of their soul only a part of their physical body. While dismemberment was happening the soul would leave when the physical body stopped living. A soul cannot exist in a dead object. If a brain looses oxygen it will soon die. as well as the heart and any other organ or tissue. This is a physical reality. A soul cannot suffer a physical death because it is spiritual by it's nature.
Yet a physical body can suffer a spiritual death through the loss of a soul. People without a soul can not be seen with physical eyes...only spiritual. A spiritual eye can see the absence of spiritual substance.

If you replace all your body parts your are not you anymore are you? so I would say that is the limit on replacement parts being the brain. your body can live on artificial respiration for ever. but with out your brain, you are never gona come back and be a person.
If you have no brain wave activity, the only thing making you breath and the heart pump is a machine and the brain stem auto pilot. if heart pumps blood and the lungs pull in oxygen, the auto pilot stays on.
kind of like a roach, they can live for two weeks with out their head attached to their body. auto pilot does that not your soul.

Adi Shankaracharya, an indian spiritual guru, is said to have a similiar experience. He was a celibate monk all along his life, and had vowed celibacy. When he was in a debate where he was asked questions about sex which he could not answer as he had no experience thereof.
In order to have the experience, it is said that he did a soul transplant. At that time the king of his state had died. So Shankara went into a cave, asked his disciples to take care of his body until he returns, and with his own will power, he left his own body and entered into the dead king's body, lived as a king, had the experience of sex, and returned back in his own body, then went to the debate and answered the questions and won the debate.

This person was called 'The Adi Shankaracharya" He was the founder of modern Hinduism that exists in India today.

If you read in Gen. 2:7 you will find that man was not given a soul but was a soul. Body plus the breath of life (Ruach) and man became a living soul. So the body parts have nothing to do with the breath of life or spirit of life that was given to man at creation.

That's a very good question for a philosophical discussion. I, of course, don't have an answer. I have heard some people say that your soul is always with God. I don't know what that means but I think it implies that if you slowly replaced your body parts, in some divine sense you'd still have the "youness" about you aka your soul...

It's when you die, you can't transplant a brain, so that would be the body part that would kill you if, so if its easier for you to think of the "soul" being attached to a body part just remember, if you try to do a brain transplant, you are going to die!

The soul, or spirit, is your consciousness. Not a part of the physical body.
