That was my first impression too... but here's a thought...
What if it is taken literally that Barjesus is son of Jesus it would explain why Paul was so threatened by him in the following passage
13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.
13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
"thou child of the devil" is strong language, I think Paul may have wanted power and was threatened by Barjesus... and that he eventually succeeded in removing his threat, thus this being the only passage of Barjesus in the bible.
He was so threatened that Paul and the Holy Ghost conspire together to make Elymas (the sorcerer also known as Barjesus) blind. Paul might have thought what better way to discredit someone than to make them a blind beggar.

Acts 13:6
And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:
[A certain sorcerer] Greek: magus, or magician. See the notes on Acts 8:9.
[A false prophet] Pretending to be endowed with the gift of prophecy; or a man, probably, who pretended to be inspired.
[Bar-jesus] The word "Bar" is Syriac, and means "son." Jesus (Joshua) was not an uncommon name among the Jews. The name was given from his father-son of Jesus, or Joshua; as Bar-Jonas, son of Jonas.

Bar-Jesus and Jesus are not the same person. Bar-Jesus was a sorcerer who was trying to imitate some of the miracles of Jesus.
Hope that helps,

Different men, though Bar Jesus may have been trying to pass himself off as a son of Jesus who possessed his 'father's' powers.

No they are not the same person, it was a name, I've know a few of Mexican origin who's name are Jesus , but I wouldn't confuse him with the almighty. Bar-Jesus was a false prophet who portrayed himself as a deity

No. Jesus is the son of God, but his earthly father was Joseph, not Joshua. Jesus was already resurrected at that time.
