I know people with no food at all sometimes. But the churches still getting built. I think I can feed my province for years for cost of that church.

The Catholic church is interested in sustaining itself, and increasing its numbers. Helping the needy is a means to make that happen, nothing more. In much the same way, a billionaire giving away 1/10th of his billions to charity does not make him a philanthropist. It makes him a rich guy that has nothing better to do with his money.

I guarantee you, when the Catholic church starts to falter, and its funds start slipping away (watch for this soon), its "charity" programs will be the FIRST ones pulled...

Many people really need to do some research on the Church and its history of help.

The Catholic Church has given more, as a single entity, than any other organization in the US to be sure. During the Gulf Coast hurricanes last year, the RCC gave nearly $25 million in cash for relief efforts not including the resources to house and otherwise help those that were displaced. This is just the most recent example.

Historically, if you really take a look, the RCC is always near the "head of the line" when it comes to helping those in need.

Before you go around knocking down the RCC for building elaborate structures, take a look at the protestant Mega-churches that are popping up all over the US - how much do you think those cost? Then, look at the personal posessions of those ministers, and compare it to what the priests own.

The Catholic Church along with the entire Christian religion, has nothing to do with the people. It is for power and money, nothing else. All the Churches and religious creations they have are for show. The easiest example is the latest scandal with the pedophilistic priests. If so many men that are supposedly living their lives to the Church's standards are really just using it as a means for their own immoral gain, why are they not punished? Is Christianity just a set of beliefs. Why can such a large number of child molesters just sneak away and hide from justice because of the Religion they belong to? What ever happened to the seperation of Church and State? The fact of the matter is that Christianity is a hypocritical and false religion. Christianity has come from the translated Religions of civilizations thousands of years old. The New Testament (the christian bible) is obviously translated very badly from the Old Testament (the Jewish bible). The Old Testament is translated to and from the Koran (the Muslim bible). Both of these were translated from Greek religious texts, which were translated from Egyptain religious texts, Assyrian religious texts, Hittite religios texts, Canaan religious texts. Ergo, creating a massive web of religious ideals and concepts that all go back to one civilizations accomplishments; They were the first civilization on Earth, they were the Sumerians. The Sumerians' religious beliefs helped theirs and other civilizations, not only because it didn't base itself upon concepts like humans being superior to all other things, such as Christianity, but also because The Sumerian religion was based upon its Gods. It's gods were real, and were proven real, because it was their gods that gave them the knowledge to build the amazing structures they built. It was their gods that gave them the knowledge of the 12 planets and their compositions tens of thousands of years before we discovered the locations and compositions of only nine. The Sumerians' Gods gave them knowledge to develop the zodiac and the Zodiacal signs that we still use today (Pisces, Libra, Sagittarius,...). It is because of their interaction with their Gods, and their beliefs being so pure, original, and unselfish, that the Sumerians prospered until the Deluge(the great flood, which was caused, according to the Sumerians, by the collision of the orbits of Earth and the planet Marduk/Niburu. This orbital collision caused a 2 mile thick glacier to break off the ice caps, creating an enormous title wave, and thus flooding a large percentage of the Earth). If we can one day get the people of this great planet, to stop caring about their organized and systematic beliefs, we too can prosper greatly. This is because, when a group of people begin believing and caring about how they are living and what will happen in their lives, and stop caring about what will happen during their deaths (i.e. Heaven, Hell, the afterlife, the rapture), great things can be accomplished for humankind.

Think of the Catholic church like a business then you will understand. Churches are like chain retail stores, every one of them needs to bring in revenue. The more they build, the more revenue they get. What you are asking for cost money, not make money. They need a positive cash flow first by building the churches, then they will 'give' some away to feed, educate, etc.

It just makes business sense to build big churches, since they draw more people to them. Hence more revenue.

Okay, I grew up Catholic. In the past, the churches were grand and elaborate, but not any more. All the modern Catholic churches I've seen are rather plain looking. I used to go to one that I joked looked like a spaceship (and not in a good way).

Catholics aren't the only ones who build big and elaborate churches anyway. Ever seen the Crystal Cathedral in Los Angeles? Not Catholic, but very big and very elaborate!

People build churches to glorify God. They want to please God and bring in worshipers. More worshipers means more donations. And it's the donations that help the poor.

More churches draw more revenue. Feeding people costs. It's not profitable. The Church isn't really worried about their image, because they are the "clearing-house" for God. They will never run out of patrons, and they are secure. They do not have to reduce themselves to such gimmicks to get more believers.

That is a good question, the truth is the Catholic church only cares about itself, it will only help if it sees an opportunity to spread its intolerance.

Unfortunately it is a problem of economics. All the programs you stated cost money where as a church can actually generate money to keep those programs running.

They are big business, trying to find ways to support their salaries, using people of faith who will give anything to the church so they can be guaranteed Heaven bound when they die.
