The most common way is to add water to whatever you are cooking, but with adding water, to say pasta, you'd need to add more noodles to counteract the water. But there are somthings that just can't be counteracted, for instance, a hamburger, your best bet is just to start over and be conscious about the amount of salt put into your meat. I'm not a big meal cooker, I cook steaks and let the eatees season it themselves to their liking. I cook meals for an individual person, not one dish for a whole group, its hard to get somthing flavored just right for everyone to like it. If your meal is too salty, just serve milk to everyone or somthing like that.

Never.... I repeat NEVER add salt when cooking allow family and friends to add their own amount. Smokers need more and older folks need less. Children don't need salt either. Cooking with salt does NOT make the food cook any differently. Hope this helps from a woman that never cooks with salt!

Well...it depends on what you are cooking. I know that if it is something liquidy like soup, gravy, etc...you can drop a boiled potato in it and it will soak up the extra salt.

If it's something liquid, add a cut-up potato. The exception is tomato sauce. The potato trick won't work for that. You'd have to add another can of sauce. I don't know what to do for something solid. I'd start over.
