There are a lot of ways to help. I have monetarily assisted the Anglican cathedral in Nairobi with their programs for the street children who are mostly AIDS orphans. They provide food, baths and some education. There are many AIDS orphanages who need help. You can also donate to doctors without borders and other organizations where medical professionals volunteer.

If you want to physically go to Africa then you can volunteer at an orphanage or another sort of mission that assists AIDS patients. I personally know that the Anglican church has multiple opportunities for mission work and have been to Kenya myself through the church. The Catholic church also does good work. There are many organizations that need help - just do your due diligence to make sure that they're legitimate.

Part of the AIDS problem in Africa has to do with the people's culture and traditions. Frank discussions of sex are taboo and it has been very difficult to communicate the science of AIDS transmission especially when the villagers think that evil spirits cause AIDS. I don't have a solution for the problem itself. Your desire to help is commendable!

The easiest thing you can do is to donate to funds that help prevent the spread of it. I'd avoid any organizations that don't believe in handing out Condoms or using Birth Control - preaching abstinence won't solve the problem. You can find organizations that teach about how the disease is spread and gives Africans the tools to prevent the spread.

The next level would be to do some sort of fundraiser. You could then send the money to your choice of organizations.

Higher up would be to volunteer with an organization locally. Answer e-mails. Drum up support. Do office work. They can always use more help.

And of course, you can then volunteer to go to Africa to help educate personally. You'll probably have to pay for yourself, but they may then feed & house you once there. Spend a month there and then come back and speak to local media and magazines about your experiences. Tell the world (or your neighborhood) what is going on. Don't turn down any opportunity - solicit school newspapers (high schools and colleges), send an e-mail to your local news stations, find out about being a guest on a talk radio show.

Good luck to you! : )

Most men in Africa think that having sex with a virgin will "cure" AIDS, so young girls are often attacked repeatedly. Few men, or even women, understand how condoms can help them protect them from AIDS. Rape is common, especially in areas with civil war. Education is the key to it all, improving knowledge, health and the well being of the entire continent.

After checking out the information on the links listed below, which have much more information than I can provide here, you could:

1. Support a charity that cares for the millions of orphaned children whose parents died of AIDS.

2. Support a charity that provides low-cost medication to AIDS patients in Africa.

3. Support a charity that promotes the education of Africans about AIDS, basic sanitation and health care issues.

4. Join the Peace Corps and work in an African nation for a year.

5. Consider adopting an African child.

6. Push US politicians to back political policies that would help provide relief to AIDS victims in Africa through food, low-cost medication, clothing, housing, trade, etc.

Oprah Winfrey, Bono, and Ashley Judd all have supported campaigned internationally Africa and its AIDS epidemic---you're in good company!

Donate money to the United Nations or other NGOs, or sign up as a volunteer with a NGO to work in Africa. The best way to eradicate AIDS in Africa is to educate the public about the disease and also on the precautionary measures that can be taken by non-infected sexually-active people. The NGOs need money to finance their sex education programmes there so I suggest that you donate money to them.

Your question is not clear. First you should add additional details what you really intend to mean or do there in Africa.

Well, if you are afraid of AIDS when having sex then you must be careful. Or if you intend to reduce the intensity of AIDS problem there then you can educate the lower class society peoples because generally backward and lower class folks have very little knowledge of AIDS and I think this problem is deep rooted among them. They need to be ducated about it and you should also make us of other means like media and you can found a youth club or society of volunteers who can provide their knowledge and time and sincere efforts directed towards spreading the awareness of AIDS and its causes and how to avoid it. And to guide or help them who come for a help. Also showing them the importance of other means of entertainment.

If you are willing to do something like this, then wish you all the best! Otherwise, the Hell is awaiting you!

I do not know since their culture does not allow any birthcontrol or protection because they need babies to keep their tribes alive, especially since infant mortality is so high over in Africa, the most you can do is educate on treatment options.

it would be almost impossible to turn every single poor person in Africa into a non-poverty country. Maybe charities would work if you have the money.
