By normal standards of etiquette an engagement ring should be equal to two months salary. So figure that up then begin your search if you possibly can. Also the various Diamond stores have very good financing, Zales, Helzberg, etc. I hope this helps
just my 2 cents worth

If you are after a cheap engagement ring, look no further that Argos - I have often noticed that they have some pretty little sparklers for a tiny price - I would not advise propsing out of the Argos box it comes in though.
Good luck !

Shame....argos have just had a 1/2 price sale on alot of rings recently, i got my "one love" ring from there a few weeks ago. Try ebay as some people may have snapped a load up with the intention of selling them on.

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Diamond-Ring-Jewellery is where my engagement ring came from and it's absolutely stunning. It has a higher quality of diamond than you get in many high street stores and is valued at twice what my fiancé paid since it's a manufacturing jeweller selling them.
Alternatively think about a trip to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, then at least you get to see what they're like before buying and you'll get a good deal.

ebay is a little dangerous- how do you really know what you're getting? don't go to department stores like zales or people's ...complete rip off. try bluenile.com (i think that's the address) they have a very very good reputation for affordable diamonds with certification. i believe they're the number one online diamond retailer. my fiance got my ring there. plus, there's a 30 day refund period.

E-bay. However, the ring is supposed to be worth 2 months of your salary. Also try pawn shops.
