Well I dont know about those people...but while I am a Christian I dont believe that science is satanic (heck I always support most scientific endeavors...), and I dont read the bible literally so I dont believe in talking donkeys or creationism.
What irks me more is the fact that Fundamentalist Christians, Islamist Muslims and even some Atheists have the fracking nerve to push their beliefs on others (the Fundies) or just insult everyone even the ones who dont agree with the fundies (certain Atheists + Fundies)...everyone seems to say "respect other's beliefs" yet everyone also loves to break this rule.
As to whether there are any countries without fundies of any stripe...sorry no. Like I always say...every square meter of the world no matter where you are is occupied by at least one idiot.

Every culture and country has it's own superstitions and stuff. Some more weird than others....but...unfortunately I don't think there's any specific one we can apply for citizenship at!
Funny thing is...I am taking this Spanish class in college and my homework was to watch (and write a summary of what I understood) a show from a spanish channel. This was back in June....and I decided to watch the channel's eight o'clock news. I figured it would be the easiest to understand. As the news come on I pick up the words..."End of the World". Now my Spanish really does suck but I can honestly tell you that a serious EVENING NEWS SHOW was reporting (in spanish) that June 6, 2006 meant the end of the world because of the consecutive number: 666.
I'm like what the heck?????????
How come I had not heard anything about the end of the world in the other channels? lol....
It just goes to show you how people from other places can be equally as ignorant as people from this country!

The main reason these superstitions still exist is simply because the one thing that hasn't changed is human instinct. Fear is possibly the most powerful limit on any individual's ability, mentally, anyway. Fear of the unknown, too, has always existed, and always will; it is impossible to unroot fear from human instinct, and even from animal instinct, when it comes down to it.
Furthermore, all superstitions come from solid reasoning with twisted expression; walking under a ladder is unadvisable, simply because there is the chance it might collapse on you. Stepping on cracks in a sidewalk is dangerous, as there is a relatively high chance the tip of your shoe might slip, resluting in personal injury. Mirrors were once, a very long time ago, extremely expensive, and to purchase a mirror took years of hard work. Obviously, all of these ideas come from solid reasoning with twisted expression of that reasoning.
However, it is not a powerful argument to tell someone not to break a mirror because they will have to work hard to buy another; it is much more powerful in terms of human emotion and human instinct to say that you will suffer 7 years of bad luck.
In fact, religion asserts that superstition is evil. However, I fail to see why belief in the punishment of sins is anything more than a superstition in itself; if it is true that every soul is holy and complete, then it is the body that should be punished, along with human instinct.
I personally never expect superstition to disappear.
I hope you appreciate my insight, as I certainly appreciate your asking this highly interesting question; it really helped me collect and organize my opinion on superstitions, and to try to explain their origin reasonably. I wish you all the best!

If the world ends, so what? The savior doesn't have a fan club, he has nice people like you to take to a better place because he knows you deserve better.
No, Actually people can choose to cooperate with demons which are really figments of one's imgaination.
Actually the bible is a bunch of legends with confusing symbols and laws.
Science isn't satanic. You just have to use it the way you believe is right. There is no sin in believing in yourself, just as long you have your own consistant set of guidelines. If you break your own guidelines, that's your fault, Muahahahahahahaha!

No I am not shocked by these beliefs. I suppose I am just used to ideas like this and people who espouse them because I come from the Bible Belt. I imagine that other countries all have their equivalent of the religious 'psychosis', so there is no running away. Remember, we may be in the technological age but the human animal is the same as when he wore pelts and had a dirty butt.

Right on! The answer is that these peoples belief system keeps them from examining anything that is not contained or referenced in the Bible/Koran which are reference materials from two millennium past. People in the bronze age were more advanced because at least they were asking open questions and seeking open answers.

I think that most people have the beliefs that they have out of pure fear. They are afraid to believe in anything else because they might be the ones to burn in hell.
People are afraid of where they will spend their eternity so they won't challenge the ideas of the "bronze age."
I don't know what I believe. I believe that there is a being greater than us. I will no go to church though. I don't believe I need to go to a brick building to pray and be heard. I do believe that we have a destiny. I somewhat believe in re-incarnation.
I totally agree with everything you said. People need to believe what is in their heart rather than what society & our "ancestors" tell us to believe.

Actually what amazes me is narrow minded people who come here simply to insult people, don't bother looking at any science other than what supports the preconceived view they alread have and think they know everything.
Science has not proved nor disproved creationism. If you had an ounce of intelligence you would read about both views that science has on the subject.
Stop getting your jolly's being a insulting little bully, mature a little and realize that because people don't have the same views on a subject as you do does not mean they are stupid. Only an idiot would be that small minded and shallow.

Don't you ever consider that there may be things that can not or have yet not been proved by science? There are infinite possibilities in our universe, and God is one of them.
BTW, you can be Christian and believe in science, too, even if you choose not to believe in evolution. If God is real, He created science.
And there will never be a country where that doesn't happen, so you may as well accept that people will believe what they want to.
