my kids call my parents oma and opa. its german for grandma and grandpa. it was something that was easy for the kids to say early on and didn't sound old (my parents became grand parents in their late 40s). it was also something that wouldn't sound weird coming from a 30 year old (think once your kids are older too). my mom has a cousin that called their grandma Nana and she said it sounded weird coming from a grown man that was 6'3".

I have 2 children who call my mother "Nannie"....This is just a name that my daughter came up with herself. When she was about 18mos old,she just started calling my Mom "Nana".As she got older,it became "Nannie". I think the best way to get a unique name from your grand-child...Just let them choose it.Oh yea...CONGRATS! I wish you and your family all the best!

My suggestion is to let the baby call you what she/he calls you. It has been my experience that grandmothers who try to impose a nickname can be a little too pushy with the mother of the newbie. Baby's say the cutest things anyway. See what he/she ends up coming up with all alone. CONGRATS!!!
