That depends first on where you live. If you live in a warm area, a lab would be better because Huskys are accustomed to cool climates. We had a husky when i was little, and it got to 100 degrees in summer and the dog was miserable. Shedding and panting and just looking unhappy. We had a black lab and he was a total sweetie and didn't mind the heat
Labs are good if you want a dog that needs attention all the time. Most labs love to be with thier owers and want very little time alone. Labs can become a problem if left alone (do yourself a favor, pick up the book Marly and Me and read it before you get a lab) Huskys are a little more independent, still very friendly and sweet, but they are ok on thier own (as far as I know)
The good thing about both breeds is they are very smart (easily trainable!) and very loyal. Do some research online on both breeds before you decide, and once you've decided, research breeders for genetic defects that are found in their blood lines to make sure you get the healthiest dog possible. Good luck!

I have 4 Huskies (mom, dad and two pups) and they arnt for everyone. I originally got my male years ago because I saw The Lost Boys. I knew none of what I know now about Huskies. They love to dig! And run! You need to have a yard with a fence or some type of "tie-out" where it can still be able to run around the yard, just not leave it. My male Husky is a great escape artist and it took alot of trial and error to figure out how to keep him safetly in the yard. My female has also escaped before but luckely I figured out from the male what to do to prevent it. The heat, in my opinion, is not really an issue. Sure they have long thick coats, but as long as they have plenty shade, water and a cool breeze Huskies can live anywhere. Im in Texas and it is sometimes 105 degrees in the summer here. My dogs have all been just fine. The shedding: They will shed their coats come spring. Requires alot of brushing. I could make a pillow the size of a bed with all the fur I have collected this summer. But they are very affectionate. They have never been agressive with me or my kids. They are loyal and love attention. I dont know anything about Labs though, so get the opinion of a Lab owner for that side of it.

This one is hard, because both of these are my favorite breed of dog, short of Golden Retriever. So I don't know which one you should get. Do you want a long hair dog or short hair? Labs are short-haired and huskies are long-haired and need a lot more grooming and special care because of the way they are. Almost like wolves. Labs can come in Chocolate, golden, or black. I think Chocolate labs are the cutest things on the planet. But so are huskies.

get a lab, as long as you can put up with the hyper-activity for about 1 1/2 -2 years (slowly calming down after about the 1-1 1/2 year mark) and also if you and your family can give them the attention they have to have (labs and huskies both need to be around the people they love or it can cause problems and I would highly reccomend crate training (get a crate to fit the dog as an adult but block off the back half with a piece of wood so the cage isnt to big for a puppy) look up crate trainging on the internet and it will help greatly with either breed...but I loves labs and have had 4 lab mixes in my life (proud mom of a 1 year old lab mixed with pit bull we think but dont know for sure, but definitly lab mix) he is such a sweety and loves my daughter and cats (but the cats dont usually let him catch them, but he licks them like crazy when he gets em) good luck

I love both dogs. In my experience, labs are more affectionate and loyal. Huskies can be tempremantal. But like so much with dogs, it really depends on training.

I guess the deciding factor would be how time/money you are willing to spend on grooming. Huskies need A LOT of grooming to keep that fluffy coat and prevent mange. Labs don't.

I would say lab, unless you have spent time with huskies before. They are not your average "I love my owner and I will do anything to please her" type dog. They can be very stubborn and are also escape artists - they are wonderful but not for everyone.

Even better, I would get a lab mix from a shelter. Dont' think that all shelter dogs are old and abused. Go to www.petfinder.org - there are LOTS of very young (8wk old and up) adorable puppies needing homes!

Tough choice! Huskies are surprisingly sweet, but labs definitely have the cuteness thing going. I don't know how I would choose! Try this site for some compatibility help: http://www.selectsmart.com/DOG/

I think it depends on a lot of things. Huskies shed a LOT, and don't deal well with heat. Labs tend to be more obedient and kid-friendly. I would vote lab. =)

Labs are fantastic if you have children. They are fun when they need to be, and lowkey when you need a break. I grew up with having labs and think they are wonderful. Smart, friendly and lovable. Dont know much about huskies.
