i am thinking of getting a job, part time, as an art/design techician in a secondary school. i am 62 and looking for a little job to keep me happy. i have an art/design teaching backgound. don't need to earn megga bucks but don't want to sell myself short.

In Britain around 5-7 pounds per hour depending on pay rate for local Ed Authority

Depends on the state, district, and school. Usually however these positions are subject to the Principal of a school. An example is that a Principal will set aside X amount of there budget for this program and you are paid out of that budget.
