My, now, 2 year old was off the bottle around 10 months. Wal-mart has sippy cups called Nuby and the mouth part is soft like a bottle nipple and they are under $2.00 a piece. They work great and she still uses them to this day.

Have you seen the nipples you can buy for bottles that are shaped like a sippy cup? I bought them for my kids, so they had their bottle but the nipple was that of a sippy cup. In no time at all, I had them broke of the bottle and they were using their sippy cup. They could no longer figure out the difference because of the nipple. See if you can find them and give them a try, it worked like a charm for me.

I weaned my son off the bottle at 18 months. You're right, it was very hard. Gerber and other brands make a soft-spout top that he eventually used, after about 12 hours of nothing to drink (threw the sippy cup on the floor). After that, it was easy to put him on a regular sippy cup. stick with it.

Just do it quickly. Throw away all bottles and offer the sippy cup. It will be better now than in a long run.

Try the Playtex cups with the straws in them. My son loved them until he got used to the sippy cup. Now he uses both.

It took awhile to get my strong willed daughter off the bottle. She refused to touch the cup. She would go all day with out a drink which meant she wasn't wetting her diapers. I would give her a bottle at nap time and bed time otherwise she drank nothing. She eventually got tired of being thirsty and drank out of her cup. I also made a game of it. II told her it was my cup and pretended to drink from it and would pretend to give a cup to her doll. She was 18 months old before I could get her completely off the bottle. At times I thought she was going to dehydrate herself. She is 7 now and still very stubborn.

My grandson weaned to cups around 13 months. You may have to try several different brands because the sippers are different, and the kids do tend to have a preference. We didn't have a problem for longer than a few days. Just lose the bottles.
Another answer said put something in it they don't like -- like water!!! Wow, I hope your kid is being taught to drink water every day. Makes me wonder what her kids teeth look like.

It was hard and involved a lot of crying but I had to throw away all the bottles and any reminders of them. (my son was two when I did this) And then we went and picked out a new Nuby cup together. It could work.
