I have been very firm with a "NO". Is there a better way to train him not to bite at our faces.

He usually is not playing when he soes this, I think it is mostly for aggression, or attention.
He is generally very sweet.
He does this without warning, sitting on my lap dozing, then biting and snapping.

I have never heard of a law about 6 week old puppies, I have heard of laws about puppy mills, and other breeder laws. I bought him from a family locally where I could see his treatment, vet care and background.

Has anyone else heard of this law, I tried to look it up on peta and spca, with no avail.

If your puppy is just being a typical, mouthy puppy, you can follow the suggestions given by others here such as yelping and removing yourself from the puppy. Do not allow the puppy on the furniture (keep him below you). Provide him with plenty of appropriate things to chew on. Hand feed him so that he knows you control the food.

However, if the pup is biting OUT OF ANGER, you have a serious problem on your hands and need professional help (a good trainer/behaviorist). Puppies that young should be mouthy, but should not show any true aggression. True aggression in a very young puppy is not normal. In a pack situation a puppy that young who was aggressive with his superiors would probably not survive to adulthood, so this is not evolutionarily advantageous. This requires a trained professional's help, or you will have a serious liability on your hands. Good luck.

First of all why do you have the dog so young? There is a law say they are not alowd to leave there breeder befor 8 weeks of age. Your puppy is just a little young for be alone now.

Well you puppy is a puppy and will bite with out worning. I normal tape them on the nose and say NO firmly. Also putting them on the floor helps.

Here's what I've been told:

When he snaps/bites, let out a very loud, high-pitched "yelp" just like his littermates would have. This is how puppies teach other what is OK and what isn't.

This should startle him.

If he persists, repeat the yelp and immediately stand up and ignore him for a minute. Give him a toy to play with and praise him immediately for chewing the toy instead of your face.

when she nips at your face. grab her (not hard but firm) around the nose and mouth (like when her mouth is closed) and say no while gently pushing her away from your face. my dog was the same way, i did this for a couple weeks, she learned. (i have a stuborn pit bull, so if she can do i'm sure your dog will learn too) just remember you have to be consistant!!!!

What you should do is thump on the nose and say NO when he isn't doing it say good dog and give lots of praise or a treat.

Thump him on the nose. You didn't mention if he was doing it to play with you or if he was doing it to be aggressive. If he's doing it to play, firm no and thump him on his nose is pretty effective.

Put him on his back with your hand around his throat, this will establish dominance. It works well for women that don't do what I say as well.
