buy a haircolor that says "dark ash blonde". Avoid any color that says "golden' in front of it, because the base color in golden tones is red, and it will give you a brassy color instead of an ash. in an ash tone...the base is green, therefore, it will not show any brass. There is a chance that a greenish hue could be seen depending on your natural color. My suggestion is to pick a color that has "neutral" in the name. A neutral base has neither red nor green base, so you will get a good desired color without worrying about unpleasent side effects. Good luck!

your color is fading out, making it turn red. happens to me all the time! :[

look for a dye called dark ash blonde. i've used that i think...clariol true match? i'm not sure if that was the brand, but that's what it's called. they have warm or cool colors, and dark ash blonde is one of the cooler ones. this will keep from turning that brassy color. and the dye wasn't any more expensive than normal do-it-yourself kits.

to keep from fading in the first place, check out dove's shampoos and conditioners for color-treated hair. i just dyed my hair dark brown (naturally dirty blonde) and bought their products for hair that's dyed darker. they work WONDERFULLY. they make your hair shiny, silky, and the color won't fade at all.

also look for a leave-in product that contains UV filters. i use neutrogena triple moisture silk touch leave-in cream. it softens, smooths, and conditions while protecting your color.

hope all goes well! happy dying!

Go to a professional they have products that counteract the red you are pulling. If you do it yourself and ruin it and then go to a professional you will make her job harder and you will be spending more money because at that point it becomes a hair color correction. Just spend the money and go.
